Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us! - 2016

Thank you, most appreciated, I'm rather partial to the Iroko Seawood. Imagine a novel written by hand in that writing prior to it ever seeing a word processor. That is the number one reason I change out pens periodically. It helps in some ways to cut hand fatigue after long stretches. I am kind of drooling over a Conid though...

Drooling over a Conid? Same here. For my next birthday maybe...

May I ask something about your novel? What's it - some thriller, romance, fantasy, horror?

Absolutely. It's supernatural fantasy with a dash of alternate history. Ultimately I have planned it as a 7 book series. Book One is nearly complete in handwritten form with large parts of the others completed or at the very least mapped out to insure cohesion.

Thank you, it's an EF, I ordered for sketching purposes. I even used it in reverse for the fine hairs on the nose and shading the log - or what it is anyway.

The shading of the ink is interesting. It's Waterman absolute brown - or Havanna. It showcased a whole lot of variation, which I really liked a lot so far. Paper: CANSON 180g or 110.5 lb

akustyk: Thank you very much.

_InkyFingers: That is the original Din A3 sketch. I snapped the picture yesterday evening under artificial light. Still I have some shadows that are cast on the floor to do. And I saved the eyes for last.

I will do a tiny bit of additional work with my coloured pencils. So far all is done with the Eco and the Waterman brown.

I'll update with a finished picture.

For sketching clearly the TWSBI ECO is the workhorse.

What beautiful artwork!!! Your exquisite talent & a TWSBI Eco

Sounds serious. What kind of Althistory is yours? Years ago, I used an unpopular concept of the world where WWII has never happened. The reception was rather cold ;)

Lovely shading.

A nice pair! And once again - your handwriting is quite expressive ;)

Now, something new - a Rotring ArtPen inked with the marvelous Kaweco Sunrise Orange.

Excellent performance on any kind of paper!

I've been really enjoying your italic penmanship lately. It has a gorgeous flow to it. It looks effortless. And the ink color and shading are out of this world. Really gorgeous stuff.

Earlier this morning, I was writing with a Sheaffer Triumph Crest. A fantastic writer.

Oh my, what a Sheaffer! Bring these secret laboratories back!

Thank you for your kind words. It's hard to believe that only a year ago, I thought of Italic as of something too boring, too banal, too mainstream... I still practice other scripts, especially French Bâtard, but in terms of versatility and legibility, Italic is second to none.

Regarding the ink, I can't recommend this Kaweco Sunrise highly enough. Probably the best orange ink I've ever tried.

Book One centers around New Orleans in 1814 as the British are advancing and the Americans are building a defense. My alternate history doesn't really change the actual events. I use history as a backdrop for the supernatural/fantasy events which are occurring concurrently and influencing the history books as we know them. The Battle of New Orleans itself is a bit of a McGuffin to the actual plot lines. Book Five will be on the Eastern Front in WW2. ;)

Today I'm still using the Delta Seawood. I usually like blue inks, but the Noodler's El Lawrence dries to that nice, old diary look. Especially when you have several full pages drafted out.

Thank you for the info... I have been contemplating to buy Aurora for quite a long time now...

i generally love Cursive Italics... should i go for Stub or Italic in Aurora

mhphoto brought up the subject earlier today and I just wanted to remind myself how much I adore my Faber Castell Basic - and also how pleased I am that mine is still in one piece after its relatively rough life in pockets and bags etc.

The pen's hefty weight and stunning nib (there really is something about Faber Castell nibs) ensures it goes out to play quite a bit and it is always inked up with something or another waiting for its next outing.

Today it drew the rear view mirror hanging ornament in my brother-in-law's car.

Pen: Faber Castell Basic - M nib

Ink: Noodler's Zhivago (with a diluted grey wash over)

Paper: CASS Art 300gsm watercolour paper

Its a beautiful pen with one of the best steel nibs...

I was working on my novel today, and while I have no illusions of completing 50k words by hand this month for NaNoWriMo, I did complete a few chapters. Today's inspiration came from the power of yellow as I decided to use and/or ink up a few of my yellow pens and just write.

now that is what we call as using the ink to the max potential ...

that art work is amazing...

Noihvo, that's a lovely looking pen.

My pen today, one from a Parker calligraphy set, marked X (possibly about a 1.9?)

Parker broad italic, from calligraphy set by Liz, on Flickr

Beautiful handwriting...

Still enjoying Lamy Dark Lilac in my Lamy Safari (does that make it Lamy squared?) Managed find cartridges when visiting family in the US a couple of months ago and was resigned to only having that but took an unexpected trip into Tokyo (well the trip wasn't unexpected, but having extra time was) and found a bottle at the Nihonbashi branch of Maruzen in Tokyo.

The Safari is actually my first italic (also picked up a Pilot Prera CM a week later)... so still working on the handwriting

I am actually using Jinhao 159 fitted with Ambitious 35 mm flex nib and inked with KWZI Monarch...

I love everything about this - the penmanship, the colour, the line variation, the wetness of the ink. Great photo.

You never stop to amaze me with your cursive. Is a honour to get a written response like this one.
