Christmas my wife gifted me a new toy.

A Apple-Pencil, its really hard to get but it arrived a couple of days ago.

TeaHive has a great thread with sketches.

Especially the one below was very appealing for me.

So I decided to try to colorate her sketch and create my first digital drawing ever.

@TeaHive

I hopy you don´t mind that I colorated one of your sketches.

Coloration with an Apple Pencil on a iPad Pro using Procreate by Ptero.

My first impression is, that I love the Apple Pencil, it is a great drawing device.

Procreate is an awesome drawing app.

This is my first digital drawing, but it will be for sure not my last one (but I have to learn a lot again).

Stray onto the forums for the first time today and what do I spy! You've turned my dude into a lady! ;) Joking aside, I don't mind the digitization and coloration of this doodle-atin', seeing as you gave me a shout out. xD

And a great first digital! Digital is hard for me. There's a disconnect, trying to draw with a pen-like object that doesn't behave like an actual pen. And I even bought my iPad because I wanted to push myself to do more digital work... and I just keep going back to my pens and pencils. Which I don't necessarily thing is a bad thing in my case, hehe.

Today's pen of choice is an Esterbrook CH Pastel Yellow with a 2550 (firm extra fine, untipped) nib. I love these nibs. They are the finest I have, great for making hairlines in detailed drawings, or for cheap-o paper to avoid feathering. This is also my "perfect shade of yellow." I just wish Esterbrook had done the pastel colors in the larger J. ;) That said, the only other pen I've seen in this particular shade of yellow is a Sailor Professional Gear A Mode Yellow... I lust for it, but I can't justify the $265 price tag just for the color. When I already have a pen this color... >_> A girl can dream.

Ink: Diamine Merlot.

It's unfinished because I was running out of ink and didn't want to refill the pen. Laaazzzyy.

The inconsistencies tell us that the words were written by a human hand, and have far greater value and interest because of this. EoC is much attracted to such a hand, and would prefer to read this than a perfectly executed script.

I've always admired medieval illuminated manuscripts for their beauty, and also for the consistency of the scribe work. But more recently, I've seen closeup pictures of such manuscripts, and realised that even those old masters didn't have completely perfect writing, yet overall the work was still so beautiful. It made me feel a little better about mine. :)

Candide, what a gorgeous writing example. I hope someday to have such fine skills! yay! More Ptero sketches and this time it's a collaboration with teahive! I love it! How have you liked the iPad pro! I'm thinking of switching at the next version...

Fountain pen wise I am having loads of fun with the Sailor and using Diamine shimmering inks in the Lamy vista 1.5 at work, for titles or underlining in my personal notes.

Great Italics Candide

Thank you Diplomaat and InkyFingers. :) I still have a lot of practice to do though.

Pterodactylus, that's an amazing colouring job! I almost don't believe you when you say it's your first digital drawing. ;) The Apple Pencil looks like it's heaps of fun.

Teahive, I really like the lemon yellow of the Esterbrook too. And I'm sorry I was curious enough to google Sailor Professional Gear A Mode... yet another unobtainium! (As if the Morita original wasn't enough)

I finally finished my Midori MD notebook! :D I have a Life Noble Note lined up for use next, which I've been really looking forward to, so I'm glad to have gotten the Midori out of the way. :P

I used Emerald of Chivor in a Pilot Prera for the last page. My Italic is still very much a work in progress, not least because I still haven't learnt the majuscules and consistency still eludes me.

Oh, I love this so much! Beautiful writing!

Attika: very nice! Great composition.

But tell me about the nib!

A bit of an embarrassment really. EoC is sorry for this...

Nothing to be embarrassed about there. It's really quite accomplished and if you want to

improve there's plenty of eX ceLL eNT and not expensive books out there to learn from and practice with.

Thank you. :) But I am continuously in awe at your beautiful handwriting and photography. I really like what you did with your initials, especially how the flourishes for each letter loop back into the letter. :)

Unfortunately no robots. But I did get a chance to try out my new Esterbrook 9048 nib. It's the closest you can get to anything flexible on an Esterbrook renew-point nib. It's got a tiny bit of flex. but it's very smooth! I lucked on to it when I snatched up a fuzzy-pictured "collector's ink pen" on ebay for $3.99 and free shipping. Turned out to be a nice little blue SJ (needs a new sac and some cleaning, but no cracks or big scratches), with a wonderful nib. My find of the year, so far.
