Thanks, Eli. The pen is a very recent acquisition.

Congrats! Nice buy.

My Cordovan Brown 51 Vac is on the way to California right now. Hope it will return as a smooth stub.

Long time no see... Great job, Ian! This Medium Italic nib really rocks.

I love to read about the great liners of the past, especially the Normandie and RMS Majestic (ex-Bismarck) that carried my grandfather to and from the States in 1935/36. Their stories are no less sad than that of the Queen Elizabeth, but I'm always happy to learn something new about them and their contemporaries.

Thank you for sharing!

Thanks Eli

Yes I know, unfortunately sometimes life gets in the way.

I love the Italix nibs, they are fantastic. A fine italic is next on my hit list.

I know a bit about the SS Normadie from reading about the rivalry for the Blue Riband between her and the 2 Queens, and she was a beautiful ship also, who sadly had a similar ending to "Liz" only much earlier.

The first time I saw a pic of her lying on her side in the Hudson mud, it took my breath away, it is such a hard hitting image, very sad.

By the way, I'm not a ship buff by any manner of means, but like many who originate from Glasgow, there are many family links to the shipyards on the Clyde and my grandfather actually worked in the the yard at the time when the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth were built, and worked on both ships.

There are other close family connections to both the yards and the ships, but as this is a pen forum, I'll quit, and get back on track by saying that your Dolcevita seems to get more beautiful the closer you get to it. Gorgeous.

So your father worked with John Brown & Co! What a glorious shipyard it was...

No family connections here, just a keen interest, originated by the book titled "S.O.S." (the picture you mentioned was there, too), which I read when I was 7 yo.

Back on track: glad you like my Dolcevita. I had less luck with Italix nib (more on that on the previous page), but still like Mr. Ford's pens.

And something small for today:

Received a bunch of samples from Goulet, I've been on the hunt for a perfect blue for work and I think I found it. Diamine Oxford Blue.

Got some sepia browns and definitely ordering some Cacao du Bresil.

I got twelve samples and still going through them all. but those two are the standouts so far.

My experience has been great. I love all Big 3 Japanese pen companies' pens and I know Pilot nibs are set up for people who write with the pen held closer to 90 degrees from the paper, rather than lower angle writers like me (45/50 degrees), so I have to tweak the nibs on Pilot pens as soon as I get them, but I still enjoy the look of them. Custom 823 is really special, I think, not even comparable to TWSBI Vac700 in fit and finish, and that's coming from someone who likes the Vac700 well enough to have a handful of them. What is my favourite 823 colour? See below. ;)

SNAK, thank you, after one year, I'm still at the very beginning. Why are so many fountainpen lovers Japanese senpais, lol.

The pink is just that, Pelikan Pink cartridges, I got from my oldest daughter as a gift.

I use them for drawing mostly. After that I have still to use them for writing, because it seems that pink lasts for ever. Anyway, only two of six left. Yokatta! :D

this is beautifully done...

I also have the transparent Custom 823, with a medium nib. It gets a lot of use at work with Pilot Blue-Black ink. I'd love to see Pilot bring this out in some urushi finishes, but as it is, it's a reliable, practical pen.

I agree with you.. some more finished needed....

Inked up for the work week. Cheers!

The pen in rotation is Waterman Kultur ( fine nib) and it is inked with Diamine Majestic Blue. The pen is absolute wet writer and the ink has a beautiful stunning golden sheen. I love this ink.

The thought inspiration for today comes from Ambrose Bierce, an Amercian writer and critic. And theme for the thought is anger.

The pen is a absolute lovely wet writer but has problem with hard starts. ( whether its ink or pen I have to determine that) And I wonder why it is not listed on Waterman webpage and I got this pen via my friend whose girl was travelling to France. It is easily available in France in many stationary stores.

The ink is just plain gorgeous, love the flow, the lubrication, the colour and top of that all, the massive sheen.

Great quote (as usual), nicely done. Regarding the ink: it's one of my favourites, never had a problem with it, but a lot of people say it's clogging the feed, etc. Maybe that's what happening with your lovely Kultur.

mehandiratta: I thank you very much. I Started this on August, but haven't finished it yet, due to time constraints and the amount of sunflowers. Every time, I'm confronted about such a long time with a sketch/ drawing, insecureness sets in, however, I'm determined to finish it nonetheless, whether I like the outcome or not. Thank you for your encouraging words.

I agree completely! The Kultur, the ink, and the handwriting, all top-notch.

You've been on fire lately! Every time I come back to this thread I see one (or more) of your awesome pens. The Delta looks fantastic. Yes, it might not have the small details of the other DV, but it's just as gorgeous! And you put it to good use. Excellent handwriting, as usual. I admire your style and your versatility.

I remember reading about Sheaffer's 1940s pens, and the company's commitment to quality, particularly with regard to their Triumph nib. A name aptly chosen, a true Triumph of ingenuity and manufacturing prowess.

2 Watermans today, and 2 of my faves as well.

Red marble Laureat with diamine Aster ink

And

My Piano laque Maestro with diamine Cornflower, both wet medium nibs.

It was my Grandfather Eli, who worked at Browns, although my father did dirty his hands in the same yard much, much later.

I just received my new 1990's Waterman Patrician blue pencil. : ) Until recently, I did not know that there was a matching pencil for the 1990's Waterman Patrician ballpoint pen and fountain pen. I purchased a new old stock blue Waterman Patician ballpoint pen a few years ago. Although I used this beautiful ballpoint pen from time to time, the pen always felt incomplete as it did not have a matching pencil; I like ballpoint pens to be paired with pencils. So, when I saw the listing for a blue Waterman Patician pencil being sold for a collector on eBay, I bought it. Now, my Waterman Patician ballpoint pen is complete. Don't my Waterman Patrician ballpoint pen and pencil look lovely together?
