May I please ask what ink you used in this picture. You have such exquisite writing with fine nibs.

Thank you! I believe I used Noodler's Blue Steel ink that is sold by the Dromgoole fountain pen store in Houston. It's a very good conventional ink, with good flow and easy cleaning, one of my favorites. I just run out yesterday, so it's time for another bottle.

This pen is back in rotation and is paired with a different ink.

It is usually fed Tsukushi or Ancient Copper.

What is the Life paper like for writing upon, SNAK?

Incidentally, I keep an eye out for Wahl rosewood pens (wahl-eyed?) - the only Wahl I like - but they don't come up often and are usually a bit spendy for the likes of me.

The Osmiroid B3 certainly is sharp, so I have to drive slowly and watch out for the bends! :)

Please drive safely on the B3, E_of_C. ;)

The Life Cream Writing pad is really nice, and I use it for all my fountain pen and most dip pens without feathering or bleed through. It is A5 size, with 10mm ruled lines. Each pad comes with 30 sheets.

Life Co. also has a line of B5 (I think) size pads that has 70 sheets and also with 10mm ruled lines. The A5 pads are either in Cream or White sheets, and the ruled lines can be Horizontal (for western writing) or Vertical (for Japanese writing). This B5 size paper is thinner and can let some super wet fountain pen bleed, and not useable for dip pens at all.

I prefer the A5 size Cream Writing pad for my writing letters to people I like, but I will also happily use up the B5 size pad for notes to my kids' teachers etc. :P

I highly recommend the A5 size Cream Writing pad.

Edited to add:

Also, my Wahl Eversharp Rosewood pen came to me a few years ago from Mr. Peter Twydle for about £35 including shipping all the way to Sydney, so I was happy with that purchase. I think I was fortunate because there was listed a non-ringtop Rosewood pen with proper ball clip and with regular nib right after mine, so many people skipped the oblique nibbed, ring-top pen and went for the standard sized Rosewood pen. I was the only person who bid on mine and I got it! It had already been re-sac'ed by Mr. Twydle and all looking nice, so it's been writing very nicely for me. The recurring rainbow colour on the nib is weird, though. It came to me clean, polished, and sparkling. Maybe it has to do with the fact that this pen is my dedicated dark brown inks pen.

Thank you, SNAK.

I will look into finding a supplier of Life stationery. May have to go direct to Japan though (I'm in Aotearoa). My search for reams of TR paper have proved fruitless, so another decent paper is always welcome.

By the by, the Wahl is just a dream for me. I'll never have the opportunity to acquire one.

It may not help you but my supplier of Life brand things are NoteMaker and StationNation, both in Australia so I am not sure if they ship to NZ but may be worth checking them out.

I got my 4000 sheets of A4 TR paper from a Rakuten store (it's the one many on FPN use, but I can't remember the name right now, let me know if you need it I will find it). Depending on the courier service that your institution uses for shipping from Japan, it might work out for you if you are able to persuade the Rakuten seller to use your courier.

Good luck. And also with Wahl, never say never! I remember you saying last year that you were no longer going to get any more Swan pens (or any pen for that matter) but I see you've got some again now. ;) ;) ;)

Thanks again, and yes if you can recall the supplier I would be interested. I think the freight shipper we use, if they have a branch in the relevant city, send their own courier to pick up the shipment and then ship it to our University as part of a larger consignment. It's supposed to keep costs down, though I have yet to test this!

Yeah, a few Swans popped up, but a few Swans also swanned off. Sort of a balance I suppose.

Been driving the B3 again. Here we go:

It's a tricky beast and I haven't quite got the hang of it yet. Paper is something generic from the Uni. Ink is Diamine Ancient Copper. Quote is a misquote from part of a quote of Rumi.

OK so the Rakuten store that I bought my 4000 sheets of A4 size Tomoe River paper is this one below. Obviously, I have no affiliation with this store other than as a customer.

English page: http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/auc-shikisai/item/50602/?s-id=borderless_browsehist_en

Original Japanese page: http://item.rakuten.co.jp/auc-shikisai/50602

They pack the paper really really well, in a perfect-fit box, all 4000 sheets (equivalent to 8 reams right?) wrapped up tightly in brown craft paper type thick paper. The box is the size of about 3 and a half of the regular A4 size copy paper reams (500 sheets each of say 80gsm) stacked on top of each other, so not too large, but the weight was surprisingly heavy for the size of the box.

The Rakuten seller's store front is in Osaka apparently, and they seem to accept pickups within 7 days (according to their Japanese page, haven't checked the English page) by customers who request it. Hope your work's courier arrangement works out for you.

I can't remember if giving the link to a shop outside of FPN was ok. If it's not ok, please delete or amend this post, or let me know so I will fix it.

Heh! That's actually the same shop I found. So, 8 reams will weigh approximately 14kg. Cool. Have to wait until Monday to go and have a talk with my people. Unfortunately I don't speak or read any Japanese myself.

I am eagerly waiting for the week to end, it's one of those weeks unfortunately. So, to get my mind off what I should be doing, I have popped back onto FPN and this thread is the first one that I always check. It's lovely to gawk at all the pretty inks and pens and handwriting samples. Always puts me in a more relaxed, chilled mood. And that's what I need, because if I am going to procrastinate, I am going to do it right.

This is one of the pens I have inked up at the moment.

The King Eagle nib was ground down by Mr. Mottishaw to be sharper and to have the writing characteristics of thick horizontal and thin vertical lines. It is a beautiful, crisp and very wet nib just the way I like them. It is one of my regularly picked up writers.

Hi SNAK and EOC! I also have ordered through that company and they were really great. (Just a very satisfied customer :) )

Oh Bummer! I feel for you.

Once I (or my husband, it's still unresolved) chucked a paper towel wrapped bundle of a handful of vintage nibs and ebonite feeds that I was playing around to try and create some Franken pens. It was just before we were hosting a dinner party and we were tidying up the house, so by the time I remembered about the missing nibs/feeds it was 3 or 4 days later and the kitchen rubbish (along with a few days worth of food scraps) had already gone out to the wheely bin outside. I seriously considered the option of just forgetting about the nibs because of what I knew I had to do to retrieve them , but yes I did get the week's worth of rubbish bags out of the wheely bin, opened the stinky bags and recovered the moist and smelly bundle of treasures. The nibs were fine, despite having had some social interaction with peeled prawn shells and moulded duck liver pate, they didn't get any dents or bends. I threw away the ebonite feeds but kept the vintage gold nibs and I still think my efforts were well worth it.

My husband thought I was nuts, but he knew that already. :lticaptd: :lticaptd: :lticaptd:
