Finally got my photo lights set up. I received some lights and a photo tent for Christmas and haven't had a chance to play with any of them until now. No tent yet, but did play around with the lights. For a first attempt it came out pretty good. I still need to play some more to get it all how I like it and to figure out how to get the different options for depth of field I'd like. But not bad for straight out of the camera with no more processing than to crop it.

That looks great already! The lighting is nice and natural. Well done.

And some terrific handwriting! The two ff's followed by the l in 'affliction' are just perfect.

One of my favorite songs from them

Yeah, from before they started to revolve around Tuomas' ego completely... :/

Very nice! Silly question perhaps, but is that shading all from flexing the nib?

Not a silly question at all, Alexander. Yes, just flexing. It has a fairly soft nib, and with controlled pressure the variation in line is excellent. If only modern nibs had such flexibility —but then the vintage pens wouldn't be so special if that were true... ;)

As I am nearing the end of the Monochrome Project, I try to finish up as soon as possible by filling this gusher of an eyedropper (with a 5 ml capacity!), a Ranga Model 4C with a JoWo Broad.

Dang, Noihvo, that was an exciting little scene! What happened before? What happened after? I've recently been getting quite interested in urban fantasy, and yours looks great!

Also, what ink are you using? The light isn't awesome, but it looks like it might sheen nicely.

I see, thanks. It might be something for me to take up too. I suspect it could be a nice way to slow down, which is something I seem to struggle with at the moment. Going to look into this a little more, very interesting!

Thanks! It is a part of a series of short snippets I write in The Monochrome Project, my effort to ever empty a bottle of ink. In this case it is Koh-I-Noor Document Black, and I use it as often and in as many pens that I can. I have heard from pen pals that the ink sheens red, though I have always had a hard time seeing it myself.

All the previous parts have been posted in this thread and the one from 2015, though they can probably be difficult to find among the vast collection of different kinds of art and craft posted here. If you are interested, I could PM the previous seven parts to you.

And kudos to you for being the first one here to comment on any of them. I was starting to think that they only annoyed the esteemed members of the Network, hence the long hiatus petween parts seven and eight.

"I didn't dare to call them Imperials, cause there is a controversy about that name here in FPN."

That's why I used "'Imperial'" range", so I don't have to defend my admitted lack of precision in nomenclature. Not that anyone on this fine and valuable forum has ever told me I have to defend anything!

Some birds drawn with calami.

By Sophia, 8yo and Felix, 6yo.

I have cut these reed pens myself when I was trying my hand at some formal italic. Found out that they are actually very nice tools for children to enjoy their first steps into the world of calligraphy. Sure calami can break but it is relatively cheap, easy and a lot of fun to cut a new one. Which I realise I have not had to do yet. The pens are being handled with utmost care. :)

For anyone wondering about the annotations: vogel = bird, doode (dode) = dead, and kuikens = chicks.

Ptero, thank you for your beautiful reaction. I certainly will!

This is quite a lovely and clear video on the art of cutting a read pen.

Hope this helps, and thank you once again. S&F will love your post!

Did I see you at the LA Pen show?

Well perhaps. I was there. Had a great time too.
