Thanks, now I want a Parsons. *sigh*

This place is going to be bad for my bank account.

You have no idea! :D

I keep a Prera amid my small stable of vintage pens. It has the 1mm nib with no hint of flex, but it makes a nice line for not very much money. Very dependable.

It's a good place to start.

Hello. Thank you very much for such a detailed response. The images you provided certainly helped me make my mind, I am positively sure that I want the Prera now.

On a side note, I hope that my calligraphy practice makes my handwriting as nice as yours someday.

Cheers!

For about $30 to $40 my new Lamy Safari with the 1.1 mm italic/stub is a smooth easy everyday writer and gives similar results as shown for the Parsons and Prera above. Quite satisfied with it for the money.

Thanks for taking the time to post this!
I might try to grind one of the two normal nibs (the one with a ball in the end) into an italic, but I don't know if that's even possible.

Yes, it was a tipped nib that I used to grind to an oblique cursive italic. It is now in my daily work pen (Lamy Vista).

This link should help you along nicely. I have ground several nibs myself without any special abilities or training and have done pretty well. Some of my attempts ended up being sacrifices to the nib grinding gods, but it did not take long for me to figure it out. It's always good to start out with cheap or easily replaceable nibs before you try it out on something more precious.
