Here it comes THE Pelikan Souverän M800 Vibrant Blue !

 

After the great success of one of Pelikans star products, the M 800 serie, the brand introduce this next April this Special Edition made with material as acrylic, silver palladium and 18K gold.

 

All the characteristics of this beautiful piece suggest it will be another triumph of the brand.

 

The collection is constituted by fountain pens, ballpoint pens and rollers.

 

The fountain pen will be available in EF, F, M and B nibs.

I'm going to have to see how this one compares to the Blue-o-blue. It's pretty for sure but how close in color are they?

Pretty as are most of the Pelikans. I just went back to look at my Blue-o-Blue( BoB), and notice a couple of differences. FIrst the Vibrant Blue has rhodium trim vs the gold on the BoB, and secondly it a brighter more vibrant shading, possibly due to the translucence.

 

Considering that I just put in a pre order on a M800 Grand Place, I'll pass on this one.

In unless it's a W. Germany 800, no 800 temps me. In I find the 800 to be a bit large and clunky, and the nib is a nail.

...but the 600's do...and I have enough vintage semi-flex nibs to make a prettier than my 605 worth thinking about.

There are so many like the Grand Place...that I could almost see a small collection of 600's.

 

That is though a very pretty pen.

I second what Bo says - the M800 nib is a nail (and I'll add that it feels like writing on glass). Now, if this is your thing no problem at all, go ahead.

 

I for one found it disappointing - the M600 nib is in no way flexible, semi-flex or anything like it, but you'll get some decent line variation out of it. I do like the feedback it provides, as well.

 

And no, I won't compare any of the two to the M1000 nib, that is just not fair.

Just to add a different perspective, I have several M800 and 3 M600 and, honestly, I don't see any significant difference between the nibs, in terms of flexibility (or lack of it). I also wouldn't call any of them nails, since there is a little bit of spring to the nibs - it is not much but it is there (IMO).

 

The funny thing is that I have seen pens whose nibs, in my opinion, have the same rigidity as the M800 being called springy (the Pilot 823 is one example - my 823 is in no way more springy than any of my M800s). I guess the way people perceive pens really depends on a whole lot of factors which cannot be simply reduced to definitive statements - until you try it yourself, you will not know if it is for you (and, in my opinion, stopping by the shop to try the pen, while helpful, does not allow you to get the whole picture: most likely you will not use the same paper and ink as they use).

 

For me the M800 nibs are very pleasant. But for me the different experiences provided by all kinds of nibs (flex, semi-flex, springy, etc.) are all enjoyable.

I agree with that. I like the M600 nib for faster note-taking, but I think the larger M800 nib is surely more beautiful, and the larger nib and pen give me more purchase on the paper. There's value in both.

 

Btw, BoBo, I often hear your voice in the back of my mind about the new "blob" tipped nibs. But if you write at various angles, on curved surfaces (such as notebooks while traveling or sitting on the couch), and various papers, the rounded nib points are very practical. I was a vintage nib snob but recently have come to appreciate my round-tipped nibs.
