The "Greek letter" fraternities and sororities have Greek names, and the initial letters of these words are the public name of the fraternity. For my scholastic fraternity ΦΒΚ, the Greek letters stand for Φιλοσοφία Βίου Κυβερνήτης, or in English "Philosophy (or, Love of Learning) is the Guide of Life."
