What Pen Are You Waiting For In The Mail - 2016 Edition

Recommended Posts

EoC was messing around with bids on a Parker 45. Not sure why, have had 3 and gave them all as gifts. Anyway, accidentally hit the submit button and won a green one for $20. Perhaps another PIF pen?

Why are you talking to the third person?

In addition to the L-Tech that's been sitting on my desk for +- a month, waiting for me to earn it, I added a twin in Chrome in the last Massdrop that's somewhere in the sky. I've decided that earning one earns me both, and I'm very, very close...

Now I'm just waiting for the Lamy 2000 to come back around on Massdrop for my next reward tier :)

Still waiting on my Sailor Procolor 500 Sakura F and Platinum 3776 Century Black SF to arrive. The Sailor made it to the States at least. The 3776 has no shipping updates. ><; So it may or may not still be in Japan.. who knows. *getting antsy*

I'm not waiting for those nibs anymore! I got a refund  . Yeah, after waiting well past the end of the delivery date window I contacted E-Bay and the process starts with some sort of official message to the seller. I guess that the seller didn't put up much of a fight because I got the refund right away. Given that his feedback ratings have plummeted since I bought this item, I suppose that E-Bay is pretty used to folks not getting their items delivered from him.

And now I've gotten it :lticaptd:!

The five nibs were in a little envelope which appears to have been shipped from Malaysia, not China. I suppose that the seller is part of a drop shipping operation spanning several nation states in eastern Asia, it looks like. The nibs arrived almost a month later than the latest date in the six week window of when to expect them!

So now I suppose I need to contact the seller and send him that $1.99 back that I had been refunded. I'll need to figure out how that gets done. It's way past the time when I can leave feedback on this item.

A quick eyeballing of the nibs reveals that they look all right, whether they'll work or not I will find out some time in the future, maybe the far future.

Now I am really on the wagon. I haven't bought anything in the fountain pen, ink or accessories categories since some time in December.

Aaaaagh. The Lamy 2000 came back around on Massdrop ($120 with free shipping in CONUS!) and totally ruined my pen budget for the next month or so. Now I'll just have to buy some ink components...

(I decided, after much hand-wringing, on Medium nib for the L2K. I hope it won't be too broad...)

Update:

The red urushi Custom 845 Waverley (post 44) has been in regular use since it arrived, inked with Asa-gao. Very nice.

Yesterday, I received the Sailor Pro Gear Slim in Manyou Metallic Green that I had ordered for my daughter-in-law's Christmas present back in November. It was worth the wait--one of the most beautiful Sailors I have seen. It matches her college colors perfectly (William and Mary Green and Gold), and I have ordered a custom Tekker ink in official W&M green to go with it. I hope she uses it!

My MB Heritage 1914 and Collection Box cleared US customs day before yesterday, but haven't heard anything since. And my Namiki No. 50 Vermilion (Emperor) hasn't made it to nib.com yet.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Well you make me feel a little less bad about the delay in my Sailor Pro Gear Slim ("Four Seasons" Yukitsubaki) which I ordered at the beginning of January and should arrive Monday.

Last week, along with some super cheap ink on sale, I ordered a Nimosine Fission in red, with a .6 and medium nibs from xfountainpen. I think it may be my signature pen....

And yesterday, I finally bit the bullet and preordered a Tactile Turn Gist, Polycarbonate + Copper. It just looks amazing, and all the preview reviews seem to confirm its worth.

(I guess it's not quite in the mail yet, but it will be soon!)

It'll be my first $40+ pen. For it, I forewent the Platinum Century and the Lamy Studio in blue. Perhaps a blue pen will be in my future, but not for a while. :)

Last night I ordered two more pens: a Pilot Penmanship that only comes with an extra fine nib, and a Pilot 78G with a fine nib. The main point behind this purchase was to expand my range of available nib sizes into the finer range. I generally use medium nibs and they work well for me, but wanted some finer options because I thought they might work better in some cases. I realize these aren't especially fancy pens (and they're certainly not expensive), but for what I wanted to do, I thought these would work well. I'm looking forward to trying them out when I receive them.

Oh? You have attracted my interest with that "super cheap" qualification. What was the ink? And where was it being sold? If it's cheap enough I might even get off the wagon for some, not that I need any more ink.

I'm going to count my ink-making supplies on this thread, even though they're technically not pens. I'm waiting on dye, soda ash and triethanolamine to build an ink from (chemical) scratch; we'll see how it goes when they arrive.... (The glycerine and thymol arrived yesterday!)

It was a sale on newly introduced Chesterfield inks through xfountainpens.com. $3.99 for 50 ml of four new Chesterfield Antique inks.

Sadly, the sale ended 2/4/16.

My Platinum 3776 Century (my fourth of this model!) in Black with a soft fine nib arrived today. I already had another black with a C nib I turned into a cursive italic.. so this one is going to be my every day pen. Since I already have another Black, I won't mind if it gets a bit beat up. (Though if the SF nib were broken, I'd be devastated---it's my absolute favorite nib of any pen now).

Waiting on a Lamy Al-Star 2016 Charged Green with B nib, and a Jinaho X750 Flighter (all metal).
