Hello Fountain Pen Network users,

I am very new and ignorant about Fountain Pens. I came here in the hopes of learning some more. I am impressed at the wealth of knowledge, activity, and support that is found here. I am learning calligraphy. I have a somewhat vintage pen that needs a little restoration; I will attempt to submit a question in reference to that pen, in your Repairs Q and A subsection.

Thank you for all your contributions.

Jairo in Longwood.

Welcome, Jairo !

It started with a sharpened stick and berry juice. After that, there were numerous innovations to control the leakage of ink onto the paper. (Some of the science and engineering is impressive.)

A ballpoint pen user has to grip the pen firmly and hold it nearly upright, pressing firmly to make the ball track and distribute the paste ink. Hand fatigue is common. The liquid ink of a fountain pen is attracted to the paper, and will flow with slightest contact. So, a fountain pen, held at a 45º tilt, allows a fingers-extended, relaxed grip. Anyone, who takes notes in class lectures, will appreciate this.

Our gods are Louis Waterman and George Parker.

Which vintage pen needs restoration ? Proceed slowly. Don't force anything !

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !
