Inky T O D - What Was Your Favorite Ink Of 2015?

I think my favorite for 2015 is probably KWZI #24 IG Blue #3. I'm a sucker for iron gall inks to begin with, and this one is gorgeous. Doesn't oxidize as dark as the IG Blue-Black, and is a lovely dark blue.

First runner-up is Noodler's Blue Upon the Plains of Abraham. It's an interesting sort of dark grayish blue, and it seems to be pretty waterproof, so I feel comfortable

The Miss Congeniality Award goes to Noodler's Blue Ghost which is silly and fun and possibly be worth getting a full bottle of, just for the amusement factor of an FP friendly invisible ink.

My all time favorite ink Diamine Imperial Purple got a true challenger: Sailor Kobe Sannomiya Panse. They are close to each other, although Sannomiya has a bit more blue in it, but written with fine nib they look almost the same, but Sailor feels much better.

I only managed to get it in cartridges but: Lamy Orange

Goes well with the copper orange Al Star

I hope they put out the bottle version soon in my area. Makes no sense to skip Europe.

The inks of 2015 come in two lines:

- KWZI

- Callifolo

I'm growing very fond of KWZI IG inks, and the Callifolo inks have a wide range of well-behaved blues.

Well, as a result of my participation in a particular Co-Razy, I should say Parker Penman Sapphire, but it really is the ink of the first decade of the 21st C.

For me, now, it would have to be the descendants of PPS -- Noodler's Liberty's Elysium, Sailor Bung Box Hatsukoi (i.e. First Love or Sapphire), Noodler's Inkyman Sapphire and Faux Penman Sapphire #9.

Right now my favourite ink has to be my new blend Faux Edelstein Aquamarine, which I just posted in the Recipes forum.

18 hrs later:

I meant to include that one of the things I have learnt in the Co-Razy mentioned above is that the same ink can look wildly different, and will look at least a bit different, in different pens and on different papers.

There is no one Parker Penman Sapphire. There is PPS in a Sailor 1911 NMF on Tomoe River paper, there is PPS in a Platinum 3776 M on Double A paper, etc, etc, etc.

When you fill a pen, leave it for at least a day before evaluating the colour. In many pens the ink has to saturate the slots in the feed before you get a decent amount of colour coming through. My Sailor ProColor 500 M filled with Faux Edelstein Aquamarine showed a much richer, slightly darker blue the next day.

This year I rediscovered an old favorite of mine, Pelikan 4001 Black...this was the first non-royal-blue ink I used (starting sometime in secondary school I guess). I had abandoned it in favor of more 'exotic' inks, which is a shame, since this ink is readily available in my country, quite inexpensive, and great for calligraphy (even with dip pens!). Now it's in 8 out of my 9 daily carry pens (most of which are calligraphy pens).

Despite all the 'My Little Pony' shimmer inks it *has* been a good year for ink. If I can stretch the concept of one favourite, I've delighted in the discovery of a fountain pen-friendly CMYK ink set that has allowed me to mix some stunning bespoke ink colours,

If I'm not allowed that then I'd have to say that I continue to love Tokiwa-matsu. A superb ink for colour, & behaviour - it's just inky class.

Ah, what IS that fountain pen friendly CMYK ink set? Would that be the deAtramentis Document Inks: fuchsia, Turquoise, Yellow, and Black? Or do you mean another CMYK set?

Linda Medley suggested:

CYAN: Noodler's Navajo Turquoise

MAGENTA: Noodler's Shah's Rose

YELLOW: Noodler's Yellow

I also like Platinum Mix Free, but it's not CYMK.

The trick is to use primary (CYMK) colors first because the RYB are more likely to give you muddy colors.

It's OK, I am fascinated by what you said, and glad you chimed in. I was originally asking about Migo's set but the more the merrier. Goodness, I know you KNOW about color!

I was going to say Noodler's Gruene Cactus.

Then I realized I got the KWZI inks this year.

So I'll just say that I'm overwhelmed.

A staple in my collection for years, Platinum Blue-black.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

Hi both.

It's the Octopus set. Octopus primarily make printer inks, but also make a handful of FP inks, which I really like. Burgunder and Karibik are my favourites. Really good, basic inks to use and not expensive. So I was eager to try their Rainbow mixing kit, and I've not been disappointed.

Amberlea - I like the Platinum set too. Their colours are good to use 'straight'. They are useful inks for mixing as they bring some sheen to the mix, especially Silky Purple.

1st - SBRE Brown

2nd- Bung Box Blue Black (4B)

3rd - Kobe Nagasawa Ijikan Red

I think it is a real compliment to SBRE Brown & Diamine to have produced an ink that you enjoyed more than Bung Box or Kobe ink! I used same yesterday & was still enamored with it. I hope he will feel inspired to "do another one."

Thank you! I admit to using them straight.

I got four inks this year: Bungbox's Ink of the Witch and Piano Mahogany, Laywine's Havanna, and Edelstein's 2015 Ink of the Year, Amethyst. I'm going to have to go with the Edelstein, which is giving my beloved Imperial Purple a run for its money.
