Hi, KSM

On this forum, asking for constructive critique is like opening the flood gates. Your italic is pleasing and looks good. Just continue your practice, critique your letters, and make any changes you think are needed.

Might suggest you are doing well with formal italic. About time to start cursive italic? Some never do, remain in formal forever. But, if you want to work on cursive, a good book to start with is Fred Eager's Beautiful Handwriting the Italic Way. Used copies are fairly easily obtained. Just hunt around the online book stores.

Best of luck, keep up the good work.

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

I couldn't agree more!

Handwriting is a very personal thing, it's got to please you, nobody else. Pick a style that suits you, and stick with it. And, as Randal said, your italic is already very good.

Father Robert Palladino passed away on February 23, 2016. See: Fr. Robert Palladino - R.i.p.

In his memory, and especially for those interested in Cataneo's italic hand, here are a couple of exemplars of that hand written by Fr. Palladino:

Enjoy!

This past weekend, we visited one of our sons and his family. I was able to spend some time with my 7 year old granddaughter, starting to teach her italic handwriting in which she had shown some interest. I left her with a Pilot Plumix with a medium "calligraphy" nib and a few cartridges. Today, I wrote her a letter. I post it as a current sample of my italic hand.

As you can see, my usual italic hand is semi-cursive italic in that some but not all of the letters are joined.

Thanks for your kind words. Does the "bird" reference refer to my Nakaya Portable Owl?

Lovely David.

Making beautiful things together is one of the nicest things to do with a child IMO.

Thank you so much for sharing!
