Favorite Blue Ink

Hello!

I'm in the search of a nice, standard blue. I'm about to place an order of 20ish samples, but would like to know what some of your favorites are. And if you feel like including a writing sample that would be very much appreciated!

Thanks all!

My favorite "standard" blues at this moment are:

MB Permanent Blue (waterproof, nice flow and great shading)

Iroshizuku Asa-Gao

MB Royal Blue

And one that is very difficult to find: Parker Penman Sapphire

Thank you! I've given thought to MB Royal Blue & Permanent blue, but images often show them as washed out (IMO). And I've given up on my search to ever acquire PPS haha

+ 1 for MB Permanent Blue

This is my favorite of all the blues. It's a great, highly saturated blue that is also very permanent on paper. I love it.

I might have to give MB Permanent Blue another look. Sadly I don't know of anywhere to get a sample before committing to a bottle.

Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue is a basic, saturated, well-behaved blue.

I will have a look at it. Thanks!

3 ml of inky goodness, enough for two or three good fills.

I didn't know Anderson Pens had MB samples. Thanks!

+1 on Asa-Gao. I fell in love with this blue, and use it in my demonstrator often!

I have a love/hate relationship with Noodler's Bay State Blue. I love how vivid it is. It shows up really well then i edit and grade student papers. I hate how it stains everything it touches.

I did a comparison of some of my blue ink samples last year. These are my favorites for this page:

Sailor Jentle Nioi-sumire - this is a blue with purple undertones; very well behaved and works well in all my pens.

Caran d'Ache Idyllic Blue - this is a wonderful ink, but the cost makes it less attractive

Aurora Blue - definitely one of the best in every pen tested.

And for this second page, my favorites are:

DeAtramentis Hyacinth: Great flow and lubrication, but it is scented.

DeAtramentis Steel Blue: Again, great flow and lubrication.

L'Artisan Pastellier Calli folio Bleu Pacifique: Wonderful flow, shading and lovely sheen

Waterman South Seas (now Inspired Blue): A wonderful turquoise - perhaps my favorite of all

L'Artisan Pastellier Callifolio Bleu Mediteranee: Lovely medium blue with nice shading and sheen

These aren't the best pictures, but perhaps they can give you a sense of the color. You can get samples of the L'Artisan Pastellier Callifolio inks from Vanness Pens.

I'm not hugely fond of blues, particularly the kind suitable for business writing, but I do really like Nagasawa Kobe van Gogh Cobalt, and to a lesser degree, Iroshizuku Kon-Peki. The van Gogh Cobalt is a touch darker than Kon-Peki, which is why I prefer it, and has lovely sheen.
