Alternatives To Grinding For Nibs With Lost Tipping

I've got Moore's Maniflex nib with lost tipping on one of the tines. I could grind the nib into italic. But I wonder what other DIY alternatives to grinding are possible.

I think of folding or clamping by the sides the tip to form it similar to ones on the early cheap nibs without tipping material (like some Esterbrook's, rolatip and 3d tiers). Or bend it to make kind of fude nib.

I couldn't find the information about it. Does anybody tried to do it and was successful?

What you are proposing will likely damage the nib. The fude still needs tipping. Send it to be retipped, or acquire a similar nib with tipping and grind that.

I don't have an original pen to put the nib in, and I will use the nib for a very cheap frankenpen. Obviously, there is no point at all in retipping or acquiring another nib.

So what I just want to know that there is no other alternatives to form a new tip other than grinding. Is it correct?

Is it gold or steel? Gold will be a problem, steel probably not. Without tipping both will wear down, but gold will go quickly.

It is a gold nib. I thought as gold is more pliable, it will be easier to deform a tip. Do you think it more likely will crack than steel?

I've wondered how long a steel tip will last. My guess is that it's quite long. Recall that dip pens are mostly just that. A big variable would be the width.

Does anyone want to report long term experiences with steel tips?
