"the band reminds me of Omas"

that's quite an acute remark actually

the original decoband bears such name due to exactly that particular band

and what you may not know is that Omas was inspired by the Wahl Eversharp Decoband, in those days

and thereafter used a similar band on its Extra pens!

(in a similar way as they took inspiration from the Doric - unmistakably one of the most beautiful pens ever made - for the shape of the faceted range such as the Paragon...)

I personally don't complain or have anything to blame Omas for, as long as the result is as good as the inspiring model...

infact we now have two iconic pens, instead of one!

I wish they offered it in finer nib widths. As a medium width nib its flex is less apparent and less suited to smaller handwriting. I find that my Super Flex offers about the same (if as much) flex as what I see in writing samples of the Gold Flex nib. A bit heavy for longer writing sessions, though I'm surprised that its size hasn't proved a significant factor given my smaller hand. Beautiful and very well made with a fun filling system.

I bought the new version rosewood ebonite decoband in Kobe Japan. It is fitted with a 18 k flexible nib ,and instead, with a simple box this time. The decobend has the feel of vintage ,but a heavy ebonite pen, bringing me a new writing experience with the flexible nib, not mention to the red louboutin heels feed !

I have been unable to tame the wet nib of my Decoband with anything other than Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black. All other inks I have tried have been far too wet. Any other suggestions for very dry inks to use in this pen would be welcome.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I had this problem with all inks, even Pelikan 4001 and contacted Syd. He invited me to return it for adjustment. It's there now. He has received a lot of praise for customer service. I'm eagerly looking forward to the return.

By the way, I think Robert Oster Burgundy (red) is about as dry as 4001.

He has received a lot of praise for customer service.

Ordered a decoband with the request to be shipped in older lacquered one pen boxes from one of their retailers and gave them a date to get it shipped (order was placed on the understanding that the pen would be there at that date). Company said no problem, and could be easily done. Difference between placing the order and delivery date was about one month. Delivery was within US since I wanted to save shipping and a friend would have carried it back.

3 days before the scheduled delivery date, Wahl-Eversharp delivers boxes to the retailer, no pens. Boxes were wrong too, of Magnificent seven series and not the single pen one.

One month after the scheduled delivery date (which is now), the pen and boxes are all in order, but my friend isn't there anymore to receive the pen. The pen is going to lay eggs at the retailer for a few months before I can find someone else to carry it back. I'm not happy with this. It's not that great of a pen for me to put up with this.

Beautiful pen and very interesting thread. I am delighted to learn that Switzerland has a role in this. It would make sense due to Swiss knowledge and tradition in precision machining and watch making expertise.

I chatted with Syd at the Chicago Show today and asked that question. The nib is made in Germany, but the debossing as well as some plating is done in Switzerland. Debossing is the process of removing gold from the nib which resuts in the depressed, frosted surface on the nib. It is done to provide the degree of flex Syd wanted in the nib. By the way, Syd provided his permission for me to post this information.

I asked who makes his two inks, but he said he is specifically not allowed by the vendor to publicize that information.

Just ordered some Diamine Bilberry ink It reminds me of the Everberry ink and is more in line with my budgetary ability.

I was in Akkerman’s shop in The Hague this week and looked for this model, because they have it on their website. Alas, shortly before some guy had come in and bought all of their stock.

Zaddick...

Beautiful Pen.

How are the metal treads by the grip section?

Are they really noticeable when you write?

Are they sharp or smooth?

Thanks,

David

They are noticeable but smooth. I don't find them bothersome.

Fantastic pen an great review, thanks for sharing. Definitely on my purchase list

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

The Decoband has caught my attention in a big way. The pen is big, the price is big, and the reviews are up there too. I am looking for a dazzling, quality pen with a nib that can provide my writing more "personality," for lack of a better word. As a left-hander, I have problems with some stub nibs so most of the pens in my collection have rounded nibs. And they work great for ordinary use. Everyone seems to like the super-flex nib on the Decoband, but so far, I haven't seen any actual writing samples that really illustrate the nib's artistic capabilities except for a few figure 8s and some vertical and horizontal lines. The samples I've seen don't really look that different than writing from a regular nib. I suspect that the reviewers were just using it in an ordinary way with light pressure. I don't expect a calligraphic look necessarily, but can anyone provide a sample, link or reference that can show what the nib can do with line variation in actual writing? Thanks!

I took a look at the writing samples you so graciously provided. Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed. I thought there would be more line variation with such a flexible nib. I absolutely love the pen otherwise, but maybe I'll keep researching and looking for an outstanding pen/nib combo that provides the "look" I want to achieve on paper. Any suggestions appreciated!
