Excelsior De Bayard With Beautiful Brown Marbled Celluloid

I was fortunate enough to have been thought of during a friend's trip to France. She brought back a French pen for me. I have zero knowledge of French pens until this evening. The plastic on this is stunning brown, gold, cream with a pear finish on some of the colors. It seems to have an interchangeable nib. The clip motif is repeated on the lever. I just had to share!

Bayard was one of the top tier French/European brands of the 1930ies & 40ies.

Your pen dates approximately to mid 40ies.

What a beauty! I also have an Excelsior 560 -- in dark blue. I have another, earlier model, a Special 8 (450), also from the late 30's, as well. Pictures of both in my website, here They're wonderful writers, restore easily.

I have a mini-collection of Bayard Excelsiors, and this one is probably my favourite, a really super celluloid. (Other Excelsiors come in 'hatched' cellulloids, rich marbled colours, and even a sort of 'snakeskin'. I particularly like the chevrons on the clip and the lever which give the design a little extra 'deco' cool.

 

Your pen is in pristine condition, too. Lucky you!
