Great review, Sagar, and thanks for the excellent and artistic photos. Y'all are making it hard to keep waiting patiently for my own Nauka to arrive.

Yes, in fact that 10mm area has been provided expressly for the purpose of gripping the section, while the cap is being unscrewed. So hold the pen in that area while you uncap.

Best,

Hari

Dear Hari,

The Nauka completely owes this feature and improvisation to you. Thank you for your valuable technical inputs.

While my sincere thanks to each one for participating. I need to specially mention the overwhelming support I got from the following, who are actually my customers, but went ahead in supporting this project voluntarily.

  1. Joshua Lax - Was the reason why Nauka is there today. Made the first prototype for him as a custom order. Thank you for setting up this group buy for FPN and also naming the product as Nauka.
  2. Prithwijit Chaki- For making the CAD drawing which was the base of the design. Suggesting improvisations, and taking key interest to ensure this project is on.
  3. Hari Balakrishna- (Famous as Hari), for all the technical inputs, inputs for improvisation in the final design and providing out of box ideas to make this so successful.
  4. Sanjay Ramaswamy- For being behind me to complete the first prototype and all the encouragement.
  5. Sagar - For this excellent vivid review. Makes me feel good about the pen.

My sincere gratitude for each of you.

Hi Subbu,

Congratulations on launching such a nice and successful design and thank you for the mention. It is always a pleasure discussing and exchanging ideas with you and I am glad that my little CAD drawings were of help.

Regards,

Thank you to all of the design team for creating something both useful and beautiful. Thank you Mr. S for turning the design into reality and making it available to ordinary folk such as myself :) I am most fortunate to have a Nauka of my very own, complete with my name engraved.

Okay, at the risk of being corny/silly:

What better companions for a Nauka than a pair of White Swans swimming around it on the water?

(Yeah, my photography is poor, but the concept is clearly seen)

Maybe there's another marketing angle here, in addition to those adorable paper boat pics :)

Excellent review, Sagar. You've developed a particularly innovative and elegant way of displaying dimensions by drawing them on paper, juxtaposed with the pen components.

  • 2 weeks later...

I did not appreciate 2 features of Nauka:

1. Cap fits on section thread. If cap is tightened too much, while uncapping the cap+section together will unscrew from the barrel. Now to extract the section from cap there is only 10 mm of visible section length available for gripping the section. That is too short and when you hold the section between fingers and turn cap, the section will also turn because of very low friction force (specially for glossy finish, very few will buy the matte finish). You don't expect a user to be able to grip the section like a vise.

2. The clip is push-fit into a slit at the cap's top part. There may be chance of clip coming off. Re-fixing clip with a bit of epoxy is not a good idea if future replacement becomes necessary. A clip-ring all around the cap would have been a better idea.
