Green Carbonesque Pilot Vanishing Point Colors

Earlier this week, I received a number of Pilot Vanishing Points with the carbonesque (kasuri) finish and was hoping that other VP collectors may be able to help me confirm an interesting discovery. The green carbonesque was originally released in Japan in 2004 as a limited edition. About a month ago Pilot announced that they were re-releasing it in limited quantities in Japan only. I assumed that these new green carbonesque pens would be identical in color to the original release. I acquired a few of them and when I placed them alongside my original version I noticed a subtle color difference. For reference the original 2004 green carbonesque is second from the top (the only one without a sticker). It is darker and slightly more blue-green in color than the current release. This means that there are now 7 different colors of carbonesque VPs instead of the 6 I always assumed there to be. I would sincerely appreciate confirmation from any collectors out there who own both green carbonesque VPs. Thanks for looking.

Wow! I have been seeking one of these forever, and pretty much gave up, until finding one on ebay just today. The seller also has other nib sizes too, and so I snagged my size immediately, assuming them to be new-old stock. If they have been re-released this explains their sudden appearance out of nowhere and in multiple sizes; the seller hasn't listed them as batches though, just one each of EF, F, and M.

I like the richer green tone of the 'new' ones! Either way I'm glad I've now got one coming my way, they're beautiful. I'm now selling the also-rare new-old stock dark green & silver VP I also just bought to fund it, since I'd have preferred the Kasumi finish had both been available.

  • 4 months later...

Admittedly, I am late to the game. I got my first Vanishing Point about ten months ago. I now own four of them and my favorite is my Green Kasuri and am now thinking So, I am intrigued. Even counting two different shades of green as separate colors, I have only been able to identify six different colors of Kasuri: Black, Blue, Green (two shades), Red and White. What am I missing?

Current Daily Carry: Pilot Custom 743 with 14k Posting nib (Sailor Kiwa-Guro), Sailor 1911L Realo Champagne with 21k Extra Fine nib (Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu). Platinum Century 3776 Bourgogne (Diamine Syrah), Nakaya Portable Writer Midori with 14k Extra Extra Fine nib (Lamy Peridot), Pilot Vanishing Point Stealth Black with Extra Fine nib unit (Pilot Blue Black), a dozen Nockco DotDash index cards of various sizes and a Traveler's Notebook.

There are 2 shades of red. The original red was released in 2003 and can be tough to find. It's the left most pen in this photo:

Ah, I see... Thanks for the clarification. It figures that the red that I prefer (more of a brick or maroon, based on what I see in the photo) would be the harder one to find.

Why one of the white is shorter? (I might be wrong, but the nib does not seem to be out, which would explain it.)

It did not have a nib unit inside at the time I took this photo.
