Hi

I have recently bought a MontbBlanc from a ebay seller in Spain. This is my first Montblanc, so I need your helps and I really appreciate that.
I have given that this item was bought form Montblanc Iberia SLU Regalos de Empresa, Tel: 934463969 in Spain and 100% authentic. The number of International Guarantee Certificate is 105657 and the number on the clip of this pen is YH1360467.
But when I went to The Pen Shop in Meadowhall - a Montblanc Boutique in UK to send it to MontBlanc Service to restore, then they said to me that this pen is not genuine or fake. I am not sure that she was right or not, since she could not point up that is the old version of Montblanc 144 with the gold ring around the nib and just compare this item with the new one. But I think she have some reasons to believe it is fake ( some photos explain for those reasons attached ).
Then I went to Ernest Jones - another Montblanc boutique in UK to check it again, and they said to me that it look like genuine and that is okay. But I also do not think these guys is experts, as they just took a cursory look but not carefully investigate it.
Thus, it made me so confused, so please help me to verify this item!
Many thanks.

Two entirely different pen models. The pen from the pen shop is not a 144 but rather a 145. Montblanc calls both a "Classique". One is a screw cap, one a push fit cap. The 144 has been discontinued by Montblanc. I see nothing in the pictures of your pen to make me think it is not authentic.

I'm no expert here, but I share the same fountainpen passion with the FPN people here...

So, maybe this topic

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/299371-mb-144-roller-ball-pen-a-good-bargain/

will help you to sleep tight? :)

Only difference I see is that your pen has no cartridge converter, which is easily obtainable.

The rest, IMHO, looks legit.

Enjoy in your first Montblanc!

Thank you very much for your comments!

You guys just make me have a good sleep tonight! The Pen Shop just called me in the afternoon to pick up my "fake" Montblanc  :yikes: , after this call I'm so down and disappointed  .

I just have some question about the nib and Under Clip Engraving. Does a Montblanc 144 old version have a nib like that? Because it looks so simple compared to the nib of 145 or another photo on the internet. Does a Montblanc 144 have a under clip engraving?

I want to send my pen to Montblanc Service center to restore the gold ring around the nib. But I really worry that they will destroy my pen if they think it is fake, is it real?

Again Many thanks for your helps!

The gold ring gets corroded when it gets put into ink and then not washed off fully. Happens to all the 144s. It will not cause any performance problems.

The nib and feed look correct for an older 144 but the clip is for a 144 made after 1992 or so.

TieKid...I wouldn't hesitate to send it to MB Service Center. First of all , they won't destroy it without your permission. Secondly, they are much more qualified to know a real from a fake pen than the lady at the first place you visited. Like Jar said, you don't

Need the gold ring for the pen to perform correctly...purely cosmetic. But if you want the gold ring replaced, go for it. Like previous posters have noted, your pen looks entirely legit to me. Enjoy your first Montblanc!

Just a little note about The pen shop Meadowhall one of the assistants tried telling me that my monotone Montblanc 146 was a fake and refused to send for a service. Sent via another shop to Montblanc serviced it no issues .

Your pen is an old 144 Classique, push on cap version pen, with a monotone nib, and I'm sure that if you send it to Montblanc they will service it and add a new ring next to the nib.

The Meadowhall shop compared it with a modern 145 Classic, screw cap version pen, which it is nothing like. I am completely shocked that this shop that represents Montblanc doesn't know the difference between a 144 and a 145, which is simple enough.

Don't worry at all about sending it back to Montblanc. It always remains your property and they don't destroy fakes because they remain the property of the person who sent them. They just return them unserviced if they are fakes. Since your pen isn't a fake they will service it

I received a Montblanc 144 as a gift in the early 1990s ... looks very much like yours. And I had the same sort of corrosion at the ring near the nib. In fact, it came to be leaky there, too, and so within six years or so the pen was unusable. I was not impressed.

About four years ago I took the pen to a Montblanc service centre and for CDN $65 got a new section, converter, and cap. I'm not sure that I didn't get a new nib, actually. I was impressed.
