Not worrying much about my midlife crisis... currently have more worry about do I will be able to live it with the ONE I love?

Although would love to run away a bit from the high tech civilization (no computer, no internet, no gadgets...), just my pens, my inks, papers... somewhere in the Caribbean... :puddle: No email, just "plain old" letters... the sea, and the sunset...

I'd like to dive under the covers and wait for this week to be over--conciliation was tough today.

Fly fishing in Japan and an ink themed shopping spree would be delightful.

Is that what I need to do? Run away from home? Today I feel like (bleep) - like having been run over by a truck. The closest I have come to calling in sick to work in who knows how long.

That does look like a cool place to visit though.

There was a time when I had a desire to run the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. It is run between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg. One year is run "up" (87 km) from Durban, the next "down" (89 km) from Pietermaritzburg, alternating. South Africa would be a grail type trip though (for me) - Comrades Marathon or not. My dad spent some time there as a young man, and every now and again he would pull out slides when I was growing up. Made me want to visit. It will probably never happen though.

Ideally, I would learn the tricks of the trade of restoring vintage pens, and bringing those old beauties back to life for people. This, of course, would take place in some divinely progressive country like Denmark or Netherlands, but since I don't speak Danish or Dutch, I'd have to work from the artistic area of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay --with only a 3 hour ferry ride across the river to Buenos Aires.

Pens and inks? Not prepared to part with any, so they ALL come with me. ;)

This is how it looked about 75 ink bottles ago...

How does it look now?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Not nearly as interesting. I was "encouraged" [—strongly!] to organize my inks in such as way as they were less visible to others. So after a trip to the Container Store, we have handy ink-filled bins...

PS : I fully intend to attend my own wake. Barring being squished unexpectedly by a stray meteorite, I will invite everybody and enjoy hearing them say nice things about me.

At least .. that is what you are hoping for... ;)

So, what about you, if today were your "Run Away" day, what would you do? Join the Circus? Meet up the Gypsies? Stalk the Goulets? Find out where Cyber6's ink banks are located? Visit JustWrite in Australia? Siege Nathan's fortress?

OK.. let me break it down...

  • Join the Circus? - Nah.. never care much about circus..
  • Meet up the Gypsies? - I am already half Hungarian.. so I am a quarter gypsy..
  • Stalk the Goulets? - Done... they are pretty normal, so that was kind of boring.. :)
  • Find out where Cyber6's ink banks are located? - :lticaptd: ... I know where they are... ;)
  • Visit JustWrite in Australia? - I did go to Australia and meant to drop by JustWrite... the stars were not aligned, next time.. ;)
  • Siege Nathan's fortress - Nah... I rather go to Poland and siege Konrad's Lab Fortress.. .. dying to know what new inks he is working on.,..

So all in all... I am doing quite good at "running away" on a regular basis...

I still want to take a sabbatical and move to Tokyo... that should be my next goal. ;) ;)

Isn't Konrad still finishing his education and working like a mad scientist with inks in the basement? I picture him and Nathan as the 007s of the ink world.

Hmm . . . since I only have one day to "run away" (with unlimited funds to do anything?) . . . I would probably charter a private jet and fly to a warm and sunny beach, swim in the warm ocean, then sip on a mai-tai or mojito while journaling in my favorite journal with my favorite fountain pens. I would lunch on a fantastic grilled fish dish with a wonderful chardonnay, enjoy a dip in the spa, have a massage, get my nails done, relax on the beach, and take a long walk on the beach at sunset. Finally, I would board my private jet and wing my way back home to my "little house" and the cold and snow.

Assuming I nailed the lotto or something so we wouldn't have to work, my wife and I want to hike the Appalachian Trail- I've done tiny bits before. End in the South, keep going and land on the Floridian suncoast. Toes in the sand, a Bloody Mary, good paper, an e95 and Noodler Habanero, Pilot BB and Diamine Sherwood.

I'm so tough I vacation in Detroit.
