Can Someone Give Me Some Information About Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuya-Kusa And Pilot Iroshizuku Ama-Iro?

Hi guys, I'm a newbie to fountain pen and recently got my first pen, a Lamy Safari. I was using one of the Lamy ink cartridges but for some reason, the ink 'disappeared' from the paper after a few days.

 

I'm a student and I'm trying to find a blue ink that's slightly brighter, a similar colour to Zebra's Sarasa Cobalt Blue (not an FP). I've sort of stumbled upon Pilot Iroshizuku and I quite like the colours Tsuya-Kuya and Ama-Iro. Can someone help me with some of the pros and cons of these two inks? Are they good and is it worth the price?

I think that's a case of fading, with the Lamy ink. Quite a few royal blues exhibit such a characteristic.

 

Now Pilot Iro inks are saturated but well behaved stuff.The line offers pretty wet ink and has nice shading and colour.

 

On the flip side, they are not waterproof and kinda expensive to purchase in Singapore.

 

I personally use Noodler's Liberty Elysium (water resistant) and Noodler's Upper Ganges Blue (more water resistant than Liberty Elysium)

Have not tried Ama Iro. Tsuyu Kusa is a poorly-behaved ink, especially for Iroshizuku since most of the line is so good. Lots of feathering except on the best paper. Kon Peki and Asa Gao may not meet your color description, but they're better inks by a long ways. I like Pelikan 4001 Turquoise a lot, also Pelikan Edelstein Topaz (which is just slightly more blue and slightly darker than the regular Pelikan Turquoise). Pilot Namiki Blue isn't bad, and it's water resistant. The color is a bit dull, that's all. Sailor Nioi Sumire is a nice, slightly purplish blue.

Ama Iro is one of my favorite inks, but they are both nice. Ama iro is a bit more to the turquoise side of blue than tsuyu kusa, but it's not turquoise - I think the name translates to sky blue. Tsuyu kusa is closer to a traditional blue ink. I haven't used tsuyu kusa much, but ama iro is very well behaved. I typically use an extra-fine nib, and the ama iro is so smooth it practically glides across the page. I don't recall the tsuyu kusa being dry or rough when I tested it. I haven't experienced any fading with the ama iro & I've been using it for several years. It writes well on cheap paper as well as nicer paper & doesn't feather. I think of ama iro as a blue that doesn't take itself too seriously, so it might not be the best color for a very formal environment (some of my law school professors would not have liked it), but if you are using it primarily for your own notes and such, then that doesn't really matter. I would think either would be a good choice; it really comes down to color preference. Hope this helps.

I have tried both inks. Ama-Iro is not turquoise, so much as a cerulean blue, while Tsuyu-kusa is a "soft" light blue (more of a china blue). I had a bit of feathering and some bleedthrough on bad paper (Piccadilly sketch book) with both, because they're very wet inks. Ama-Iro seems to have a bit more water resistance, but to my mind, Tsuyu-kusa is a more unique color and a little easier on the eyes.

I haven't made up my mind enough about either ink -- so they're both on my "maybe" list for getting a full bottle.

Ama Iro is a light bright blue that is well behaved in every pen i have had it in and has a bit of shading to it. The only thing i have found that comes close is Noodlers Navajo Turquoise, though that tends to run a little darker.

I've recently bought Ama-iro and would definitely call it a sky blue. Not really turquoise, but more of a lightish blue. Cerulean blue is a good description.

 

I think that any sort of turquoise would need a bit of green in it and Ama-iro is a single blue dye ink like Diamine China Blue is. Pelikan Edelstein Topaz is similar but slightly darker.
