I've written a review on this pen on my vintage stuff blog:

The review is on my blog right here.

Comments and suggestions are of course welcome.

And for those who are hesitant to click to a new site, the review looks like this:

I have two of the original versions, and I'm not liking the changes to the reproduction version. Mainly, they've modified the section so it has no flare at the tip anymore, which gave the original a very comfortable feel in the hand. And the'ye put a metal sleeve on the barrel above the section, but I'm not sure why; perhaps they thought it added some strength. I've had mine for over 5 years with no issues with breakage or any fear of breakage, so not sure why they felt this change was necessary, but I thing it detracts from the clean look of the originals. And the very straight section is nothing like mine. Just my $.02.

I thought that there were many different versions, not a first and reproduction. Look through the reviews here and you'll see a variety, with and without back threads, and I think a few different section shapes. Not 100% certain of course. :)

Thank you for the comment.

I happen to like the metal threading a lot because I think it adds to the look of the resin and make it a bit more "high-end".

Also as I mentioned in my review, I was pleasantly surprised that the metal thread feels smooth. Even when using the pen for quite some time, I don't feel it rubbing against the side of my finger.

You are correct. I just saw an SE or LE made with Ebonite on the classified here the other day.

The point I'm trying to make in the review is that they brought back the back thread in the reproduction, and I'm glad.

I would have been quite annoyed if I got a version without it. The cap will fall off when you write, especially if you tend to rotate the fountain pen around.
