Purple Safari In 2016... Finally

readonly

Recommended Posts

I'm excited too by this new Safari colour - I love all things purple, and already have the purple Al-Star (just waiting for a converter to arrive so I can fill it with J Herbin Poussiere de Lune, which I think will be an excellent match). In fact I've already wishlisted a couple of Diamine purples ready for ordering next year!

I just wish the 2016 Al-Star was a subtler green, less like this year's Neon Lime Safari. Seems a bit of a waste, really...

It would look good with your avatar pic :)

You'd better believe it, especially with the picture released now. I love blue inks, but ironically purple is one of my favorite colors.

OK, purple... will it be quite different from the Hero 359 kit? Let´s review what is included in the kit : three sections with EF, F and M nibs... 8 ink cartridges... converter... all that for 8.99USD (for example here) S&H included... really? not kidding?

And the specific tone of the Hero 359 is simply beautiful:

You should achieve something worthwhile indeed, Lamy! above all, if you take into account that any of your Safari nibs (or for that matter any Lamy nib, from the steel 1.9 to the 14K OB, except the Lamy 2000 nibs) fits perfectly in this Hero...

On the basis of this posting, I ordered one of these purple Herofaris in mid December, and it arrived yesterday (presumably caught up in Christmas shipping). It works as advertised. So far, I have only tried the EF nib which appears to be comparable to a normal Lamy F nib. It came with a converter (Safari style, but International fitting) and a handful of Hero Blue cartridges. I popped in one of the cartridges, and it is a nice deep blue with leanings towards purple. It looks good on good paper, but bleeds and feathers on poor quality paper.

Busy packaging! We must have ordered at the same time. I got mine today. Buffy's hand writing leaves a lot to be desired, but she wanted readers to see writing samples. The big nib is hers. She makes the ink herself.

Glad to see purple. Now maybe they'll listen to some of our calls for a cafe latte color. I ended up getting the neon yellow only to see the neon green come along. Side by side photos were posted here. Didn't make me want to buy the neon green. Purple will be a happy addition. I wish Lamy made an italic nib in black.

I hadn't noticed that there was a picture (weeks ago!) but it's a really nice purple. I'll really need to buy one of these when they come out.

The new Safari will be darker than the pen shown above.

It will be out in April according to my Lamy Rep.

There will be matching ink! ;)

I actually like the matt purple with the black clip, but I simply cannot get used to writing with Safari/Al-star pens. The grip section is extremely uncomfortable for me.I have tried the Hero pens and found them comfort wise a lot better. The grip angles don't feel as aggressive. I wish Lamy would create a standard round barrel option of the grip. I would then replace all the grip sections in mine and actually be able to use them.

I don't knock anyone who likes the pen or the pen itself, but the grip section seems to be hit or miss depending how you hold a pen. Some people love them...others hate them.

I recently experimented with a Safari plastic ballpoint and filed off the grip tabs, making it as round as I could and it's a night and day difference. The pen is actually comfortable for me to use. It's too bad it looks like (bleep).

Last year Copper Orange ink was available both in cartridge and in bottle, but somehow Lamy marketed the bottled ink only in North America. I hope they won't do the same thing this year. Do you have any information on this point? Thank you.

Not quite.

Here in Europe they were only available in cartridges.

Purple is one of my most favorite colors (tied with red). So naturally, I'm excited about this purple pen.

I would love to get a Dark Lilac and the bright Mattel Barbie purple mentioned earlier. :sm_cat:

I agree about the Lamy grip. I happen to love it. My 20-something son, however, can't write with it at all. (maybe I should consider that a blessing!) My only complaint is that the Lamy is top heavy when writing with the cap. I normally clutch the cap in my left hand or I set it down and hope I don't lose it while writing.

That's a very promising shade of purple. And I was indeed wondering whether that was a new ink or just carts of Lamy Violet. :)

The ink doesn't interest me so much, as much as I love dark purples and especially shady dark purples, mostly because the odds that it will be water resistant are slim. Otherwise I'd be dancing for inky joy...

Will we finally see Lamy Violet ink bottles? I found pictures online of it and shared a while ago but it ended up not been seen by anybody.

Oh wow, I will need to have this pen. I seem to have started collecting the annual special colors the year AFTER the turquoise, and to this day I'm sad that I didn't get that one. But purple? IT WILL BE MINE, PRECIOUS....
