@SNAK: Seeing that you are on the other side of the world from me, both in longitude and latitude, you may not have a "Michaels" art and craft store, but I'm sure you have an equivalent. These are just called "storage cups", the brand being "Artist's Loft" which seems to be the Michael's store brand.

The larger container is 46ml (1.55 fl oz), the smaller one (13ml (0.43 fl oz) - apparently I am terrible at estimating volumes by looking at the container.

The package came with 6 larger jars and 8 small ones; they are intended for mixing and storing paint. I've included a snapshot, with the 3 Oz Noodler's bottle (older glass one) for reference.

@Pira: Zoe is the calico, the grey one is Bell, but that's OK, when one has done something I can get mixed up and call each by the other's name. I've even called one of the cats "Jeremy" (my youngest) on occasion; it's #e!! getting old.

I like the idea of local seasonal food -- it's cultural. :)

SNAK ~ There is also the option of Ebay for glass bottles/jars, for example: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/151588070858?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

snowbear ~ HAH!.... ah well I do that mixing up all the time.. My dog Watson and son Willam are always getting mislabled when I am ranting about something. You would think I could tell the difference between a 4 footed one and one that is over 6 feet ( 15 yrs old )...as for cats, mine are both the same breed and at a glance seem identical. They are not nearly as trouble prone as the W-Duo.

....trying to delete a post and it won't. Just ignore this.

Oh, no -- it's out here, now!

I usually just edit and put in a single period if I can't delete.

Pic Heavy this week, as I tried a few while it was in progress. The lighting is poor because the battery was dying on my cell phone and the flash wouldn't work. Next week I'll use a real camera.

I really couldn't decide on a favourite pen do I just used the Sheaffer 300. I was also thinking about the Delta Serena, but the Ferrari won in the end (pun).

1. Set up the subject

2. What was that?

3. Oh, there's one of my helpers!

4. Layout in pencil.

5. Start blocking in color.

6. Finish inking (one color at a time).
What I used for this one: The Sheaffer 300 (Momiji), Sheaffer Taranis (Sheaffer Black), Cross Adventura (Fuyu Syogun) a couple of dip pens (Apache Sunset, green and yellow acrylic), HB pencil lead and erasers.

7. Final.

snowbear and Pira, thank you for the ideas for the ink wash containers! After seeing those, I am thinking maybe the inks sample vials may work too, but the opening is rather small so I will consider getting those small containers.

And snowbear, those are a great set of work in progress photos! I enjoyed seeing them.

I am thinking about the pens I have, and wondering what is my favourite writing pen and what would be my easier to draw pen. :D I know that demonstrator pens are out for me!

Weekly sketch #5 - My favourite fountain pen

The choice was easy - my Lamy 2000. It's also not too tricky to draw, in theory. In practice I've had a very "bitty" few days, so instead of one quick sitting this was done in snatches over 3 days. That has made consistency tricky with lighting and perspective. I was going to treat this one as a first attempt, which meant I could experiment (hence the choice to draw the oak table too) but I don't think I'll have time to do it "properly" so this will have to do, mistakes and all.

I'm glad I chose not to have the cap off, since the pen would have long since dried and clogged :)

- Very rough pencil outline

- Gillott 404 dip pen

- Higgins Eternal ink

- Moleskine Pocket Sketchbook

I'm not particularly happy with this one, but it's a learning process, especially when you have a screaming child failing to sleep properly.

@SNAK: I ran a water test (no photos) on the acrylic inks (dried at least 3 minutes) and there was no visible smearing. The paper was soaked.

Glad to help. I'll go with the better camera next week.

You could always go with the easiest to draw, first.

Yeah....this is totally cheating, because even though I nicknamed it Speed Racer, it's not my 'favorite' pen (how could I ever choose among them?!?) and I did it a million years ago. I should probably go crawl under a rock now.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Here is my contribution for favorite pen. It's a Nakaya Decapod that is very special to me because my wife gave it to me as an anniversary present after consulting with one of my friends who also collects fountain pens. It was a complete surprise - especially since my wife doesn't really "get" the fountain pen thing.

I'm including the pencil sketch, followed by the inking with Platinum carbon black, and then painted with water diluted inks.

Love the three part series. I think I have too much tunnel vision to pull it off.
