The Weekly Sketch ~ Themed Drawing Prompts For Members

OK, here's #22: an umbrella.

Noodler's Apache Sunset, Noodler's Widowmaker, Pelikan Edelstein Amethyst, and a touch of Private Reserve Avocado.

I don't know what black it is.

A lot of washing and a bit of dip pen and Lamy Safari fine; the grape is the Pelikan 205 italic.. I finally got the blue stain off of the scanner glass.

Lovely interpretation!

Hope it tasted as nice as it looks. :puddle:

Snowbear ~ I love that interpretation. I'm glad you chose to do that because those drink umbrellas were what I was thinking of when I wrote the list...alas I don't have any around here to draw. :)

Thanks, Pira. I was considering this photo, which I took at the National Cherry Blossom Festival a few of years ago, but I decided on the tropical treat.

That is a lovely photo ~ you should still consider drawing that at some point :)

...and that extra syllable in "aluminum." ;)

Heh heh, not to mention all those additional 'u's we use, 'colour', 'honour' etc. :) Thank you for getting back to me re. the non-flaming torches!

Whatever the resolution of the admin / mod discussion, they've succeeded in killing this thread, sadly.

From what I can tell, members can keep posting their drawings while the mods discuss whatever they are discussing.

That's not the point, me and others decided not to post drawings on FPN anymore if our art is censored.

Personally, I don't understand why the drawing in question was so controversial. But then, I was an art major, and my parents hung a nude self portrait I did for a class in their living room (and trust me, my parents -- especially my dad -- were pretty prudish).

As far as others continuing to post their images here, I don't think the administration has an issue with that. If you want to keep posting here, please do; I enjoy seeing your artwork regardless of where it is posted. If you also want to join the thread at the other site, we'd love to have you there, as well.

Ah. So the mods didn't kill the thread.

As long as people know they can still post, I just wanted to clarify.

While I had no real issue with the image in question, I did raise an eyebrow at the it. Likely, someone or a few members, reported the image and, by default (as noted in the guidelines of the forums) it's "receiving attention" and being discussed.

It's hard, I imagine, for the mods to balance the sensibilities of those who accept art in every form and those who do not, especially on a forum that's suppose to be friendly to those of all ages. Instead of permanently deleting the image in question, it was hidden until a thoughtful, balanced resolution could be found.

It's not an ideal situation, however, unavoidable when dealing with a large membership, but the mods do their best to consider things, from both sides, carefully.

But it does not justify the deletion of all follow up posts afterwards, including pictures of Pira and Snowbear. erasing any comment and question here and deletion of a related question in the community feedback forum created by somebody else.

I know that the mods haven't actually killed the thread. We can still post and put up pictures. But Pira, snowbear and Ptero won't publish pictures any more - three of the main contributors to the thread (and Pira being the OP and organiser) - plus there's a threat that pretty innocuous pictures and completely innocuous follow-up pictures get deleted, then what's the incentive to post?

Even if the mods put the pictures back, it's taken too long.

Where's that thoughtful, balance resolution?

It is my understanding that they do not delete anything, but "hide" it. I can't comment on something I have not read, but going off my own experience of commenting in threads and posts that have been hidden, the mods, I'm sure, had their reasons and are within the bounds of the site's guidlines that we all agree to when we sign up.

I'm not sure what you mean by deletion as the mods, to my knowledge, "hide" and do not delete items. What I did notice is that some of the images on page 21 of this thread were self-deleted by its poster at its source (the images were held in another site), not by the moderators.

To you, the matter has taken too long, and I respect that as your opinion, but it's not a simple matter--it deserves much consideration, especially if it goes beyond the 3 main participants to the many that view the thread.

If you'd like to know where in the process the mods are on that "...thoughtful, balanced resolution..." message Wim directly. Inquire at the source and you'll get an update. You can also contact a number of mods, but you'll likely get the quickest response from Wim.

Would one of the Mods post a summary of what happened over the past few days, please?

Though I haven't posted in this thread frequently, I really enjoyed following it. It has inspired me to sketch more than I thought I could; I liked the newest batch of prompts and was planning to participate more. This is very disappointing to learn that the apparent removal of certain posts has prompted the most active participants to drop out.
