Highly Doubt They Are Fake But Might As Well Ask

The more I read this forum the more I see lots of fakes that are sold by sneaky people passing them as real. Now I got my two Starwalkers from a shop in HK. Wedding gift but I was there to choose them and both them :-)

The shop looked and said they were an authorised dealer and they stamped by MB booklet.

Highly doubt I was ripped off back in 2007, but heck, I might as well ask here as no harm done. I guess I'm asking because I think I didn't pay much, $514USD back then for the pair. Seems a little cheap don't it?

Here are pictures of the pens, the boxes and booklets they came with new. As both were from the same store so I just posted pics of one book. If one pen is real both would be.

Please let me know if its dangerous to post a SN and booklet on an open forum and I'll take it down.

Everything about these pens suggest genuine.

This particular website is useful when checking the authenticity of Starwalker Rubberline pens: http://www.maxpens.de/rubberfakes/rubberfake.htm.

In brief, these are a few things you need to check:

1. The number of rubber rectangles - the original has more than the counterfeit.

2. The thickness and clarity of the lines in between the rectangles.

3. The shape and clarity of the star at the top of the pen.

4. The location and font of the serial number. Counterfeit Starwalkers typically have the serial number on the side of the clip.

5. The overall quality of the finish of the pen. Counterfeits are typically of inferior quality with thinner plating to the metal parts.

There are a few other pointers too, as shown in the photos on the maxpens website.

One more thing, if you have a Starwalker Rubberline fountain or rollerball pen with a plastic end to the barrel instead of a metal one, yes that too is an indication it is a fake. However, your pens seem fine as does the packaging.

Best wishes.

Great advice! I plan to buy a fountain to complete the set. I will go second hand so these tips are valuable. I'll look for an ebayer who has buyer protection.

I should note I have seen those very basic fake ones from China for like $5-$30 a pop. Needless to say they dont last long (I admit I bought one in my 20s when I was not really interested into MB pens. Funny thing is the fake pens made me want to get the real ones.). But I've never had one of those close-to-real fakes and thats what I'd be worried about. The fakes I've seen in China you can spoke easy without being an expert :-P
