Chesterfield Antique Yankee = Diamine ?

I recently received some Chesterfield Antique Yankee. What a beautiful ink! Good flow, works well on all the paper I use.

 

I have seen posts that link it to Diamine Denim, Midnight and Regency Blue.

 

Does anyone know which Diamine color Yankee corresponds to?

I don't think anyone has an exact list. In my mind it is Regency Blue and I use it a lot. Try Antique Oxford too.

I have Antique Yankee and it is similar (maybe identical) to Regency. Great color.

Doesn't...Xfountainpens told me that Antique Yankee, Antique Oxford, Antique (whatever) are in-house mixes of other colours.

 

It would be great it anyone has these and could line them up with the Diamine ink colours to see which colours they fall between though

Yankee looks like Midnight to me.

I just tested Chesterfield Antique Oxford against Diamine Majestic Blue. They are not the same. There is virtually no red sheen on the Antique Oxford and compared to Majestic Blue it is:

--slightly bluer (but no green)

--almost no red sheen and good news...

--much less prone to smudging

 

I love both but they are different. Antique Oxford looks as though it is a mix of Majestic Blue + ???

I have to disagree about sheen, at least with what I have. I'm getting much more with the Oxford on the HP 32# before, and Rhodia dotpad here.:

 

But here's another scan of color difference. Is this anything like what you're seeing? The Majestic greener than the Oxford?

Here's an attempt, inconclusive to my eyes, to compare my photo to the Goulet swabs. I can't tell for sure how green Majestic is supposed to be, but I lean towards saying my Majestic is closer to the swab than my Oxford.

 

I did this composite because my Majestic is a sample, so I wondered if it was mislabeled. In every other review, Majestic is the same hue as Midnight or more towards purple. My sample is definitely towards the green. As is the Goulet swab. My sample is also _from_ Goulet early 2011 and I bet that was one of their early swabs, unless they've redone the lot. In any case, photos aside, I just can't see real Majestic being greener than Denim or Midnight. Perhaps there was an off bottle or few in an early Goulet shipment.

Ok, just so there'd be more than one source than islandink's inquiry , I called xfountainpens and they confirmed that the antique inks, including Oxford, are made by Diamine but are not exactly any of the colors sold by Diamine. All I could get for Oxford specifically is that it is "very similar to Majestic in terms of writing samples". Yankee, however, custom or not, is close enough I'd be happy saying that owning it and Midnight is redundant.

 

This makes more sense to me than "in house mixes", as I know people like SBREBrown were able to get a custom ink made in a fairly small batch (for a retailer, if a bit much money for him). And Cult Pens now has six custom colors clearly made by Diamine.

 

Personally I'm happier with Oxford than my sample of Majestic, as I was looking for a bright blue with no teal that would give even someone like me a red sheen, and it delivers. Overall, Diamine Blue Velvet is the brightest pure blue other than Baystate.
