Why Are Used Starwalker Pens So Expensive Now?

I was looking for a refill, first time in years and I'm finding it amazing how expensive Starwalker pens are.

Thats crazy because back years ago I purchased a Ballpint and Finlinder from an AD in HK for about $600US the set. I had Australian money which was also high at the time.

Haha I laughed about the ''Skywalker'' misspelling, we have a lot of clients who come in our store and asking for the Montblanc Skywalker, Montblanc have to do something with that!

On topic:

The prices are probably that high because the Metal and Rubber Starwalker is discontinued.

On the contrary, I've been surprised at how inexpensive some of the StarWalker models have been recently. My assumption is that both of these are caused by the recent StarWalker Extreme models that seem to be replacing the previous StarWalker models. I have been finding many resin StarWalker pens (ballpoints mainly) being priced on eBay for only $100 to $200; namely, Midnight Black and Platinum models. While the Extreme Resin models are starting at around $300 or $350 for new ballpoints.

The laqcuer and metal StarWalker models that are no longer made are probably increasing because they are becoming more rare and harder to find and they were already more expensive and more rare than the resin models. I know that the Cool Blue StarWalker has always been found at a premium since it's discontinuance.

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

As you can see from my avatar, I'm a StarWalker fan. Of my MB Ballpoint collection, my Ballpoints that are most loved are the StarWalkers. I only have 3: the Cool Blue, a Red Gold Metal, and a Midnight Metal. I find that the balance is just wonderful in the hands and the metal versions are my favorites due to their heavier weight. Something about the heavy weight just makes them feel classy and more substantial as opposed to the lighter resin versions. I don't let clients touch any of my FPs so these SW BPs are the only ones I let anyone use. That being said, I'm not a fan of the newer models as the grips aren't as comfortable to me. I do, however, like the new flat top dome. I just wish they kept the rounded grip section. I also have a new go to rollerball, the same Meisterstuck 90 years solitaire that Mister Mont Blanc has as well. But that's another discussion. I think as some of these get discontinued, the non resin versions will be more coveted. Perhaps the currency exchange rates and slight inflation play a part in the increased price also. Just my 2cents ...

Yes, good mistake. Star Wars on the brain and I'm not the biggest fan either.

Because are Jedi pens.

I did attempt to cut a lemon with it but it didnt work... no lightsaber qualty I'm afraid.

Back on topic. I bought a ballpint black risin starwalker on ebay for $180AUD. The seller in the UK was selling around 5 but I bid on only 1 (felt it was risky). I was wishing I bid on all 5. He got them from somewhere that was closing down or something and was selling them cheap.

I still haven't gotten my hands on a StarWalker Extreme ballpoint but I find myself liking the design more more every time I look at them. They are more of a modern kind of style in terms of looks, and I usually like the classical style. But aesthetics aside, the function seems very reasonable to me in relation to their lower cost compared to the classical styles; namely, Meisterstück pens. I like that the pen's girth is in between a Classique and a Legrand.

Glad to see that you love that 90th Solitaire, too :) I just want to stare at it twisting in the light sometimes. It certainly possesses that extra weight you refer to.

How long has the Starwallker been in production? My wife gave me a set of FP and RB in March 2007 for my birthday. I was under the impression thy were relatively new at the time. Just curious.

I'm afraid I would have considered it too risky to buy one. The black resin and rubber grid Starwalkers are the most faked pens in the Montblanc range.

Yes, but the seller had the feedback and he seemed genuine. Plus there was buyer protection. I know 100% it was real because a few years later the bottom cracked and I sent it to MB for repair which they did gratis. If it were fake, I am very sure MB would have told me.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
