Here's a quick review of some Parker Penman Emerald cartridges I had laying around for years. It's a beautiful, rich ink. Even though there are plenty of alternatives these days,I wish they'd bring back the Penman series.

Thank you for the review, indeed a very extra ordinary ink.

Best regards.

This was the only color of the Penman series I ever had.

And I loved it.

Never had a problem with it :)

That was many years ago. I know that many write nostalgically about the iconic Sapphire but never tried it myself

As was mentioned there are many alternatives now and the Penman series isn't even in the rear-view mirror anymore

It won't be long before anyone who remembers Penman inks will not be here. History will be re-written and people will say "Penman who?"

Alternatives?

Can anyone mention the alternatives available?

At least I am aware of two CRVs (one for the sapphire and the other for the mocha).

Myself I have enough bottles of the penman series for this life and few "next lives" too, but I am sure many people will be interested in knowing the alternatives.

Best regards.

I've wondered more than once why Parker doesn't re-launch the Penman line of inks. I mean, talk about your guaranteed money makers. To say nothing of the joy they'd bring to a new generation of enthusiasts who have only ever heard about the Penman series in whispered legend, and watched them run away from their budgets in eBay auctions. (Just poked my nose in -- there's a bottle of Sapphire currently going for $120, and I doubt it's topped out yet.)

Mont Blanc Irish Green could be an option. Not quite as rich but looks similar on medium quality paper I reckon.

I have a bottle of this one and it's really beautiful! For me the Graf von Faber-Castell Moss Green is a close enough option, even though it's not this vivid in color. Which I actually like. I also did a comparison a while back.

So far Moss Green seems to me the best close alternative. Its on my shopping list..

I got a bottle of Daytone Green from Mesu in Bangalore, and I think it comes very close in color, although I will admit there is no sheen. A very nice green, and it even shades a bit.
