That's a riddle these Matador pens: numbering, nib sizes...And now I learn that Siebert&Loewen was making "Oxford- Everdurable" pens for danish company.

Nice to see this string revived, particularly like seeing the disassembly pictures.

 

Matador is a puzzle--you can add all their model names to the list of things that cause confusion: Click, Standard, Express, Garant, Turbo, Turbino, Original, Tranparent, Superior, Gnome, and others I haven't seen yet or forgotten. I'd love to find a Matador catalog one of these days...

I just saw in another forum a J Matador nib, it is broken and will be repaired, I asked the owner to show images here... if he does not i will soon...

Great Pen. Congrats. It's from ca. 1934...

The description means: Nr. 200 Extra Strong and Large Pen, Round (diameter)....15.- RM/pP (Reichsmark per piece)

 

Hope you will get the nib fixed well (not an easy task at all...)

I have a Waterman's J nib of which I think that J stands for kind of calligraphy nib grind. It's flex and stub...

You have done an excellent job of cleaning it up. You might want to share your method.

I am eagerly waiting to see the nib restoration.

Hello

Simply applied cleaning fluid ceramic glass cooktop. Then rub with a brightener.

I'm curious to know what the long-term effects of this will be on the pen... I'm also curious as to why it would work...

It's time to dust the Matador thread with some heavy hit.Some of us sometimes dream to take a wayback machine and enter a pre-war stationery in some capital city to do some shopping.I did,well...almost.Here are the pens that came my way thru some time-hole. Each pen never seen ink. Each in it's box, with papers, leaflets, instructions, all in all: NOS.Most probably they were made in Krakow Matador factory on Wroclawska 9 street.Three of these pens had price-stickers on barrels (which I gently removed for safe storage).Pricing is an important information: the "6" size nr "824" was 48 zloty, blue "Turbino" 36 zloty, smallest black nr "921"- 30 zloty.Pen catalog of other
stationery from 1938 shows: "Soennecken 616" for 40 zloty, "Pelikan 100N Tortoiseshell" also 40, "Montblanc 134"- 42 zloty, "Waterman Patrician"-100 zl(!).It looks these Matadors were rather expensive pens.Some very nice surprise for me was to see, for the first time, a "Turbino" pen, until now I thought there were only pencils with this name.Only one ring on cap separates it from 9xx series.The biggest pen here is "824" and here's a puzzle: I have another, exact same pen but marked "924".Even though this domed-captop model started around 1929-30 I believe these pens come from '30s: the seller had other Matadors like "Express" and "Standard" in the same condition, boxes so I believe they were produced alongside each other.Also these cardboard boxes graphics did not change much since 1925.On their sides it says: "Every pen absolutely guaranteed" and "With best 14 carat american gold nib".

      @bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.

      @bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.

      @bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

      Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket.       No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍

      @FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

      I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎

      I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

      Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen
