The Matador Thread

What are your thoughts on the Matador Click? I got one over the summer from my grandparents in Sweden, and find it to be one of the best pens that I have tried. It came with a damaged stainless steel nib, which I replaced with a #33 Sheaffer's 14k nib. Mine also fits other common nib sizes, such as Kaweco #5 nibs. The piston mechanism is flawless, and is easy to maintain, able to screw out and be lubricated whenever needed, and on mine, pulls up 1.5 mL of ink through the wonderful feed, an interesting design without any fins, but with a notch that allows it to fill through the tip, much like the Tip-Dip of Sheaffer. Personally, I would like it more than the Parker 51 and Sheaffer Snorkel if only it had a metal cap.

They are great workhorse pens. Many have semi-flexible nibs.

If you search ebay for "Matador Click" you can see what they look like with gold caps---there are even some demonstrators there as well.

Best of luck.

Beautiful pen, Congratulations !!

It has some similarities with an Osmia, but the Ideal nib makes it very special... enjoy writing with it...

I found a Matador Lever Filler with Silver Overlay. It measures 13 cm closed.

The nib reads Matador 18 Cts 1st quality 2 Importé d’Anglaterre (F) The clip is wrong, it is from a Matador Express but the pen is French

The lever is printed PSF and in the lower part of the barrel overlay it is printed Matador Argent Controlé

In the cap and in the barrel there is a small eagle head printed.

Comments welcome…

Just a thought:

french Matador: fonde en 1911, nibs "importe d'angleterre"

german Matador: gegründet 1895, nibs "with best american 14 carat gold nib".(I'd bet Morton, later machinery bought to Germany)

kawuska, thanks for the observation.

It is obvious that Matador started in Germany, the question I continue to ask myself while looking for an answer is, What kind of a relationship they had between them the French and the German companies ?

The French needed 18 ct nibs but it is quite surprising that they did not get them from Morton as German Matador did for longtime, but imported them from England... considering the date you add "fonded in 1911" certainly bring the First world war as a rupture reason..

I stumbled across a Matador 994 yesterday. I the piston only draws a little ink into the reservoir, any suggestions to fix this? Also, the pocket clip is lose and moves freely around the cap, how do I tighten it? Any suggestions are appreciated, I am new to vintage fountain pens. Thank you

You need to replace the cork seal of the piston.

The clip can be tightened by the clip screw/cap top. Maybe needs to be cleaned inside before...

kawuska,

In fact there is not more information, just the poster. I will try to recover that anyway...

Thanks, My plunger is a screw type. I was able to disassemble and ran hot tap water through it until ink stopped coming out. How do I grip the end to tighten it against the pocket clip? Is there a special tool? I don't want to mar it.post-149420-0-07648400-1556148637_thumb.jpg
