Oblique Pen Inkwell?

When the ink gets too shallow, use a small artist brush or an eyedropper/pipette to pick up ink and place it on your nib. It's often easier and gets just the right amount of ink on the nib.

Enjoy,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

I'm wanting to get another dip pen, it's been many years. The info makes sense.

Enjoy,

Randal,

Very good method here but I'm too impatient to spend that kind of time in between 'fill ups" as it were...when I would rather be writing. And no I'm not fifteen, I just like getting to the 'art' part, ha!

You can use a regular narrow ink vial. But you need a stable base so the ink vial cannot be knocked over. A piece of 1 inch thick wood with a hole drilled to fit the ink vial will work as a base. I'm making one for Christina, hope to have it at the next Pen Posse for her. Then as you said, you just need to keep the ink vial filled so the nib can be inserted into the ink.

Not sure a narrow ink vile would be wide enough to dip an oblique pen, but I love the idea of a heavy wood base.

Send me your inkwell and I'll make you one from Walnut, Red Oak or Pecan, with a pen tray.

Does anyone still use babyfood jars? I use them all the time for mixed airbrush colors and just about anything else. They're so cheap I just dump the horrible goop inside (My dogs and cat won't eat it) and wash them out. The lids have changed over the years and is now not really what you'd call a full thread, but it works well for mixed colors.

You only dip the nib into the ink vial. The flange stays out of the ink vial. So, you NEED to keep the ink vial close to full. When the ink level drops too much, you won't be able to get ink onto your nib.

With a large mouth jar, you could get the flange into the bottle, and get further down.

Are you serious about this? Such a kind offer! I would be more than willing to pay for the wood, BTW.

I'm serious, no charge for the wood, I cut it myself after wind or ice storms. There are always storms!

Send me a PM, I'll send you my address for the ink well, hoping it is round and not octagon, but whatever it is I'll make it work for you. I'm making a set of pens right now but I'll be done in time to get yours out. (There's always a favor I need to pay back and I'm far enough behind as it is.)
