No affiliation, etc. but I know there are some fans out there of Italix pens. So this is a heads up on the Massdrop of the Parson's Essential.

I have always wanted one. I like the Celtic band. Seems like a simple classy pen. Thought I would try the medium stub.

This one does not understand the pricing. Mr Pen sells the Italix Parson's Essential on their website for GBP32.50 (excluding VAT for overseas buyers). That's about $50. Yet the Massdrop says the retail price is $90. How do they figure that?

RRP £55. £39.00 inc.VAT.

so that is about $60. The Massdrop is only about a $5 savings. Not a great deal but if you are like me and you were thinking about trying one anyway...
What is with your new thing referring to yourself as "this one" or the third person using your screen name in all your posts? That is odd.

Ah. I see now if you look elsewhere there it is as Ex VAT 32.50. So this is a pretty crummy deal actually.

Yikes!

This one begs forgiveness for offering not entirely accurate information. The prices at Mr Pen vary a little, and are special site offers in themselves. ink-syringe is quite correct that the usual rrp is 55 of the Queen's pounds. EoC apologises for any inconvenience.

I think that one was actually quite correct in spirit if not letter and, indeed, made a pretty good catch.

I think that that one's main point, which is "how is this a better dealio when one (? who? You?) can buy direct from Monseigneur Pen for much the same pile of lettuce?"

This one, that one (& me, myself and I) all concur. It is not exactly a screaming great deal (and not as good as it first seemed) but still it is a few skins off and seemingly cheaper shipping.

I know this is not a pen Empty of Crypos Tube likes much (it's he's thrown this pen back. no?). But It still seems worth a spin with such nib choices available.

Thank EoC, Crypos, and Cardboard Tube for chiming in when you see them next.

This one has an Italix Parson's Essential with a fine cursive italic nib. It was a gift from a member last year and has remained in rotation since it arrived. This one likes the pen very much thank you.

Probably a SoFaI (Game of Thrones) reference. The Unsullied refer to themselves in that manner.

Very strange to RPing in this section of the forums, though.

This one had to consult the oracle Google for understanding of the references - SoFAI (Game of Thrones) and the Unsullied. Most amusing. This one has learned a number of interesting things from this expedition into the online data.

That's what I was assuming too. "It is known..."

What's still not known is why it's done here.

I much like my medium stub (Burgundy). One of my favorite pens. This price is good, not great. If you are trying to save money, don't buy any pen at any price.

  • 1 month later...

This pen is back on Massdrop and is still a pretty meh deal but since I got in on the last one and coincidentally just got my pen I want to say i'd give Massdrop a low grade on this one (no savings really, and 2 month wait?) but the Italix pen itself is EPIC.

I got the medium stub and filled it with an Iron Gall B/B and I am mightily impressed with this pen and nib.

The pen has a great fit and finish, nice lacquer over a sturdy brass base but not too heavy as some brass pens are (I am a non-poster). I like the pretty Celtic bands and the pen has decent ergonomics. Just a really a nice pen and the nib grind is perfect. I am impressed. An overall impressive pen that punches above its weight.

It's been a long time since I was this impressed with a mid-priced current production pen with a steel nib.

I have a small army of Ft. Madison stubs, an amazing old Waterman stub and grinds from 2 or 3 major nibbers. The grind on this pen is no joke. Mr. Ford knows what he is doing.

Looking around my desk for something to sell. I want the B stub now.
