Pilot Custom Heritage 912 With Waverly Nib

Here's my review of Pilot's Waverly nib:

http://tina-koyama.blogspot.com/2015/10/product-review-pilot-waverly-nib.html

Like the Pilot Posting nib, I think the Waverly is a fantastic yet under-rated and under-discussed nib. Though it's not quite as fine as the Posting nib (which I find to be just as fine as my Pilot Falcon/Elabo soft EF), it's even smoother. It's designed to write on crappy, rough, bumpy paper (although the question is, why? :-) ), and I've therefore found it useful when drawing on cold press watercolor paper. But it's also a dream on ordinary smooth paper!

The original Waverly nib was a dip pen nib made by Macniven & Cameron in the 19th century. See here.

The tip of the nib was turned up to stop it digging into the paper, which at the time could be quite rough sometimes.

The design has been adapted to fountain pen nibs by a number of pen makers and nib meisters, although as the article linked to above says, you really don't need this on a fountain pen with an appropriately ground nib tip.

Quite a few vintage Sheaffers from the Snorkel era had a bit of upturn at the tip. Another example is the Visconti Chromium tubular nib on the Opera Typhoon and the similar clear demonstrator, whatever its name is. I like this feature just fine, and all these nibs write very smoothly, although they are absolute nails. For other Pilots with a Waverley nib option, see:

I've got a 743 with a WA nib, and like it a lot. Even better when I fixed the slight baby's bottom it had out of the box.

Sheaffer's Triumph-nibbed pens had a slight upturn at the tip from the beginning, and all mine are very nice writing pens.

I love the sound of this nib, but prefer EF nibs and I read that it is equivalent to a medium. I am intrigued by your comment regarding the softness of your Posting nib - I have a 912 PO en-route to me that will arrive tomorrow, and I am prepared for a needlepoint nail experience! Am I interpreting your comment correctly, that the Posting has some flexibility or at least softness in your experience?
