well, this morning I guess it is Visconti but by this afternoon it will probably be something else!

Kent

Only one - tough. Visconti. No, Bexley. Stipula! Too tough to decide. Kent probably got it right - it changes, but those 3 are great IMHO.

Interesting results. There was a recent query on another site about what everyone had in their pocket that particular day and IIRC Parker (of various types) was the winner by a reasonable margin.

I suppose Parker is my favorite since I own several of them and it is the only brand of which I own more than one.

A pen a day keeps the doctor away...

Parker "51" flighter; Parker 75 cisele; Conway Stewart Dandy Demonstrator; Aurora 88P chrome; Sailor Sapporo ; Lamy 2000; Lamy 27 double L; Lamy Studio; Pilot Murex; Pilot Sesenta (Red/Grey); Pilot Capless (black carbonesque); Pilot Custom 74 Demonstrator; Pilot Volex; Waterman Expert 2000 (slate blue)

These days, my favorite is Parker. They are sturdy, dependable, and nice-looking without calling more attention to themselves in the workplace than I would like. My dad gave me his and my grandfather's 75s. Recently I bought two vintage "51"s. Next I'm either going to buy a Parker 100 or a vintage "Big Red" Duofold.

I had to vote Lamy. I have and love other brands of pens, but I have two Safaris, one Demo (based on the Safari), and three Al-Stars (also same design as the Safari). I love the way they all write - smooth smooth smooth - and I reach for them a lot. They fit my hand and the way I hold a pen perfectly. :D

Hi,

I had to say Pelikan, but Lamy's are nice, so are Watermans, but I have more Parkers. :)

I voted for Sailor, because the 1911 is far and away the favorite among the pens I've got so far (and not just because it was the most expensive!) Will almost certainly end up with another 1911, probably in burgundy, with a zoom nib.

Never mind that I've got two Pelikan M200s on the way, am seriously contemplating a 600 or 605, and kind of eyeballing the MB 146. Whatever else winds up in my accumulation, I can't imagine anything bumping Sailor out of the Top 3.

(Aside: No, I don't have a problem. I can quit anytime I want to. And anyway, this is legal.)

  • 2 weeks later...

I, of course go for Danitrio, but of course, that's not on the list of choices. Yes, yes, usual claimer... I don't sell pens I don't use period. The main reason I like their pens...

They listens to customers suggestion, and willing to take chances. Like the flexy nib, the raw ebonite etc. And they move quickly to get these done. They also decided not to raise prices even though they are loosing money on these, and their flexy nib has been a hit. I have also gave them more suggetions, and I am waiting to see the end results. B)

In terms of Maki-e, dollar for dollar, you get more bang for the buck compare to the big 3. I came to this conclusion after I studied them carefully. For instance the Namiki yukari line, the ads says "Taka-maki-e".... well, there really is nothing "taka" about it. Taka means "raised" and needs layers and layers of time consuming process. Not to say they are not nice, just a bit misleading.

My Danis for most part writes well there are at least one of them in my daily rotation.

One problem with Danitrio is that they don't Market themselves well. They have been in pen business since early 70's, yet they are not household name. I have spent lots of time talking to the owner, and am happy that they will be more agressively market themselves better. I simply told them, nice pens does nobody any good sitting in the warehouse. I am sure by now you have seen their adds on PWI and now Stylus. With my day job, I am doing my best to hit the major pen shows, and looking forward to at NY to next years schedule if my schedule permits.

OK, these are my reasons... and my honest opinions of the company

So far my favorite pen brands(in my young collecting career) are Visconti and Shaeffer.

I only have 5 or 6 brands so maybe after a year or two i can compare others. I have to say that of all the brands i have actually WRITTEN with, that Waterman and Omas were a delight!! But i only own an inexpensive Waterman Phileas. It is a great pen for the price though.

Just my $.05 (due to inflation).

Well, I know Montegrappa is rarely talked about on this board, but it is a famous and old fountain pen brand. Although their Connoisseur collection is probably not meant for writing, but more jewels for collecting, their other collections are very nice and good performing pens.

Now I had to vote for Omas i.s.o. Montegrappa ;)

Groet,

-Hans.

Where's ST Dupont?

While the primary brand in my collection is Montblanc, number two is ST Dupont. Their LE Orpheo pens (Shaman, Andalusia, Taj Mahal, etc.) are really difficult to beat in terms of quality and reliability.

I have others, too, but I find myself reaching for my MB 145 Bordeaux or Boheme Onyx with an OM nib fairly often. Today, however, I'm using my Parker 100 and Sheaffer Balance with nibs tweaked by Richard Binder! It's hard to really nail down a "favorite" brand for me because I like sooooo many!

I second that experience: my ST Dupont 'Montparnasse' in dark blue Chinese Laquer, purchased in the early '90s, is of exceptional quality and reliability :)

Hi,

Then, I will hit you on the head and say "Sailor" for writing quality, "Pelikan" for reliability, and "Lamy" for durability.
