lovely pen, great review, thx

Lovely review of a fantastic pen. I have a Galactic (the rounded end version) with a 40mm Ambitious nib fitted in it. It holds enough ink to last a year :)

Thanks very much.

Prithwi, can it be (40 mm) fitted into the flat top too?

Hi,

I believe Subbu can best answer this. We need to know if there is enough clearance in the cap to accommodate the additional exposed length of the larger nib. If that is not a concern, then you would need to get a new section made with an appropriate bore diameter to accommodate the larger nib and the feed.

This pen looks so beautiful. I wanted to get the Franklin Christoph 66, which is the seriously more expensive and upscale model of the Galactic, but I'm saving up for a Conid Kingsize.

I just ordered this Galactic with the flat top and bottom and the upgraded #6 German nib about 20 minutes ago. I can't wait to get it. I want a huge eyedropper to keep on my desk or take to work and this looks like it will be better for my large hands, even more so than the Pilot Prera that I converted to an eyedropper. As soon as it comes, I'll post pics.

I think I'll put the Pilot iroshizuki ku-jaku in it since I have the tsutsuji ink in my Pilot Heritage 92.

It shipped a few days ago! Not sure how fast or efficient India mail is, though. I can't wait.

will take 2 to 4 weeks...

And it's here! I'm actually amazed at what $45 will get these days. It even came its own blue little sheath or kimono. It is surely a big pen, a bonus for people with larger hands. It holds a crazy amount of ink and the upgraded nib I ordered is super smooth. It lays down a good amount of ink without being like a river but I wish it was available in a fine nib. If you write a bit smaller than the average person, you'll notice it.

I like demonstrator pens. And this review is WOW. My order was placed some days ago for the rounded model. I hope to get this beautiful pen very soon.

Regards, Ingolf.

P.S.: If the Galactic works fine then I´m sure to place a second order ... for the flat model.

This is a beautiful pen, and your review is great!

I'm so torn between getting this or a Franklin Christoph Solid Ice P66. This one is so much cheaper though, but those Masuyama nibs <3

Thank you for the excellent review — it was what I needed to make the leap for the rounded version. I love this pen, which is good considering it’s going to be inked up for a while! My only issue, and I wonder if you’ve had this experience: because of the breather hole in the cap, the nib dries out and doesn’t start up immediately after it’s been sitting for a bit. Anyway, not really a problem for me as it’s a great writer otherwise, and you can’t beat its beauty and ink capacity at this price...

The breather hole in a fountain pen cap has the function to rapidly equalize the pressure when you uncap the pen. Otherwise, you can create a vacuum that can suck the ink from the pen into the cap. The hole has to be located just below the inner cap of the pen that functions as an ‘air seal’ to prevent the nib from easily drying out.

Pens with simple feeds with limited ink buffering capacity like the ebonite feed used in this Indian eyedropper benefit more from having a breather hole than pens with modern heavily finned feeds that can better handle pressure differences.

Since this is a transparent pen you can observe if the breather hole is correctly positioned below the ‘air seal’ and above the threads in the cap.
