Sailor Ishida Bungu Iai135 School Brown

Here is a review of one of the Sailor inks made for Ishida Bungu shop on Hokkaido, Japan. This one is called IAI135 "School Brown". I'm not certain of the reference to IAI135 whether it is an identifier of a particular school in Hakodate, or a class, or what. Perhaps someone from Japan can help educate us on its meaning.

The ink is really great though. Similar to Sailor's Do-you, but not as dark, and somewhat cooler in hue. Some of the images seem to have captured the ink color too darkly.

I've reviewed as usual on Mohawk via Linen, Hammermill 28lb inkjet, and Tomoe River papers.

This image seemed to capture the brown hue best.

Ink dropped on a damp paper towel shows brown with grey, green, and bits of orange. Most interesting.

Not bad waterfastness. Note: the paper color is not pink, it's white. Ah, the joys of the iPhone.

Can we send you a sheet for a CRV?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

You talkin' to me, ma'am? Sure. Especially if I can help with comparing my browns against the famous Penman Mocha.

I only have medium or fine nibs. No fancy nibs. Sorry, Ms. boring here.

I could do one. I have IAI135, Do-you, Iro Yama-Guri, and only the Lord knows what else.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Took delivery of a Charcoal LAMY EF today and immediately loaded it with a sample of this lovely ink. Like you say, it is a lot lighter and cooler than Doyou and I REALLY like it!

It's like the ink body is melting and flowing through the nib onto the paper. Perfect match.

Oh my, I'm hooked.

No joys finding the ink online though. Any links or tips would be most appreciated.

Thank you white_lotus :)

Another brown. Another sailor. Another ink to love. :)

Getting 2 bottles of this as soon as I can. With the amount of ink switching I do with F nibs, should last me 6-7 years. Hopefully ishida bungu continues at that time. :P

Glad you like is Tas! And RayJ too.

I have no idea of the ordering status for this or any other Ishida Bungu inks. I remember they used to have "Add to Cart" buttons, but nothing like that now. They don't say out of stock or when available. I'm hoping it's not another "you must travel to our store to buy it". Google told me once that it was nine hours travel time from Tokyo. Just in case you want to visit.

I remember it was even more expensive than usual as the shipping charges from Hokkaido are extra too.

Hopefully you're not mad at more for helping you like an ink you can't get! :gaah:

Having come to terms that Mocha is no longer available I now have to accept my existence knowing that this too is beyond a mere mortal's reach. :(

I have emailed the store, I think, and can now only light candles and incense whilst waiting to hear . . .

It, is, lovely.

(I've already done ½ cartridge in doodles and scribbles)

I hope it becomes available agin, because it is a special ink. Maybe when the ink and bottle problems become resolved, I can make a trip to Japan. Flights from NYC are about $1500-$2000. Then the 7½ hour train trip from Tokyo to the shop. Hopefully you'll hear from the shop.

Thank you for the review. :)

I thought Japanese shops have free shipping over orders of 10,800 yen.

I already have 2 bottles of this ink on my list. Maybe I'll add Gagome and Twilight blue too.
