Diamine Shimmering Set (Half Of The Line Part 2) Overview

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!
I've got a chance to review some of Diamine's new Shimmering inks line!
I've posted about half of the line earlier, but luckily here is the other half as well!
Huge thanks to Bureau Direct and Diamine!

The pen I used is a Cerruti 1881 Zoom, with a really wet stub nib. Paper is Tomoe River!
If the photos wouldn't show up, take a try here.
Prepare for the photo-flood!

Lets start with a shot of all 10 inks of the line:

- I need to correct myself here. It has a lot more pink when it dries, but when it's wet, it is really a nice red.

Thanks for the nice review. I am not, however, into any of the shimmering inks either.

Nice overview but to be honest I'm not really into this shining inks.

Beautifully showcased attika89 but like these guys, I don't like them. They all look like glitter pen writing to me . . . :(

The more I see them, the more I dislike them. I actually prefer Salamander to these inks (watch Tas fall over in amazement! LOL)

Yes, these are sure not for everyone. I can definitely see that.
The glitter pens are great comparisons, especially looking at what do you usually use them for. Not really the everyday stuff. If you've used the J.Herbin inks, you know what you can expect from these. I was really happy with the Stormy Grey and the EoC, and didn't really have the need for more, but there was no way to say no for this chance to show these off before release. There are 2 or 3 what would be nice to have though..
For me, the Emerald of Chivor still wins, but you know, now there will be more choices for those who were looking for different colors with shimmer.

As a side note, I really need a little break from shimmer now...

Thank you for all of the hard work that you did in reviewing these inks and taking and posting all of the excellent pictures.

I know from my own personal experiences with these inks that it isn't easy to transmit the way that they look in writing to an online forum.

You have used a really broad stub nib that has given them so much extra sheen, compared with how they behave in standard F or M nibs, and I congratulate you for that.

I think it's very sad that the only thing that some people can think of to say, after all of the hard work you did, is that they don't like them.

Chrissy, I like to think of attika89 as a friend on this forum and was "chatting" to him as such. No harm or disrespect meant. :(

No worries! No harm taken, really :)
I know that we respect each other's work here.
It is really only about the shimmering particles and that these are just too much for some people. Many people hate glitter pens after all, so this is not a big surprise for me.

People appreciated atttika89's review and they said so, even when they disliked these particular inks. I'm sure the OP doesn't conflate views about the inks, with views about his work. He understands that.

Isn't the point of a review to help inform peoples' opinion, pro or con, a particular ink? A high quality review is one which people read and that elicits opinions either way. On that basis attika89 knows that his is a successful review. In most ink review threads there are people who say they dislike the ink, even sometimes the reviewer themselves, if they're being honest. Not everyone can like every ink that's reviewed and these inks were bound to polarise opinion.

I'm definitely in the dislike camp - I'd much rather have a sheening ink that's down to the skill of the ink mixer, rather than the addition of mica particles, or whatever it is they've bunged into their big cooking pots. And yes, they do look like glitter gel pens :-)

Attila, thank you for these wonderful comparisons! Unlike the others on this thread that prefer inks that don't look like glitter gel pens, I LOVE GLITTER GEL PENS I can't wait to get my hands on these.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Has anyone tried using these in a normal pen that has been inked and then left standing for a couple of days?

Does the ink still have the 'shimmer'?

Yes, I have. In fact a few of these inks have been in some of my pens for a long time. I have had one of them in a Parker Sonnet for a couple of months and it starts writing straight away when I write with no problem. The only pen of mine that didn't like having one of these inks in for several weeks was a Jinhao pen whose nib I had adjusted. So that could have been my fault.

People appreciated atttika89's review and they said so, even when they disliked these particular inks. People did, yes. Other people. However, you didn't say anything other than the more you see them the more you dislike them

I'm sure the OP doesn't conflate views about the inks, with views about his work. He understands that. I'm sure he does understand that.

Isn't the point of a review to help inform peoples' opinion, pro or con, a particular ink? That is one of the points of a review, but you have already stated in a previous post on this forum that you never take any notice of other peoples ink reviews. So the fact that you rarely show any appreciation and only ever post 'cons' rather than 'pros' on particular ink brands might be less helpful than you think.

A high quality review is one which people read and that elicits opinions either way. On that basis attika89 knows that his is a successful review. Yes it is, and I hope he does.

In most ink review threads there are people who say they dislike the ink, even sometimes the reviewer themselves, if they're being honest. There are definitely people who say they dislike the ink. Most people don't doubt other people's honesty openly

Not everyone can like every ink that's reviewed and these inks were bound to polarise opinion. That they were.

I'm definitely in the dislike camp - I'd much rather have a sheening ink that's down to the skill of the ink mixer, rather than the addition of mica particles, or whatever it is they've bunged into their big cooking pots. And yes, they do look like glitter gel pens :-)

I think everyone knows that by now. Maybe some people believe that if they had had Sailor/Kobe/Bung Box or Kingdom Note on them, cost 3 times as much, and only a dozen bottles were available for 2 months of the year, you might have said something different.

They don't behave like glitter gel pens in my own personal experience. I think the way they behave depends on the pen and the nib used.
