The blind cap jewel appears to be silver; some of the early metal jewels were silver.

So, if the jewel is silver, does that mean it's likely a first year pen?

They seem to correlate closely with dated first-year pens, but I would not make an absolute declaration about the matter. Todd will know better than I.

Thanks. There are odd things with 51s, and they might have found a few to put into 1942 pens.
