TLDR: Waterman Lady pens have the same section threads as Laureat rollerballs

 

 

I really like the modern Waterman Lady pens - I have a Lady Agathe, and a Lady Elsa, both made from vintage materials - and so when at a weekend sale I saw the characteristic little vignette painting on the lid of a royal blue Lady Anastasia peeping out of a box, I grabbed it.

 

Alas, I got less than I'd bargained for: the lid, with a section jammed into it (and no way to safely remove it on the spot to see whether there was a nib, what size, material and condition)... no barrel.

 

Well, it wasn't expensive. So I took the risk, bought it, and took it home, and eventually got it open, to find a perfect gold-plated steel F nib, that writes quite nicely.

 

Still, there's not a lot you can do with just a section. So I had a look around my other Waterman pens. Surely, I thought, Waterman would use common threads on some of their pens. After all, we know that very many of their modern pens have interchangeable nibs.

 

Bingo! The Laureat *rollerball* in gunmetal has the same section threads. I now have a Frankenpen.

It's a bit messed up as a design, but it works!

 

I also managed to get myself a red Apostrophe... which means I've only got the black one to hunt down now and I'll have all four colours.

Can you show a pic with the cap of, so we get an idea of that section and nib? and perhaps a better pic of that ornamental cap?

Gold plated steel nib ?

 

The Lady pens have almost identical nibs to the Exclusive and Executive pens albeit with heart holes.

 

And you are right they ARE plated...I have always thought they were solid gold.

 

The Lady Agatha has a solid 18K nib.

From what I've read, the Agathe, Alice, and Patricia came with gold nibs, and the Lady Elsa, Anastasia and Charlotte with gold plate. The Lady Elsa that I have, though, came with an 18k nib, a lovely surprise! and both my Agathe and Elsa are absolutely lovely to write with: Waterman really could make nibs. They write wet, one is a very generous B, and they have a nice bounce to them. Plus, as you pointed out, the little heart shaped breather hole is very, very cute, as well as being a nice reference to Waterman's history.

 

One thing I've found with all these Lady pens - the cap clip action is really, really strong. I'm almost afraid to uncap my Lady Agathe because of the strength required!

 

D.ick, your request for further photos is noted, but I'm still cleaning some crud off the cap, so I'll wait till it is nicely clean to post a better pic.

Here y'are - removing the crud was easier than I'd thought, using a bit of old photographic film to scrape without damaging the lacquer.

 

Here's the section and cap - the section is the same as the Executive (I've just compared my Exec to the new pen, and it's the same length, and fits the thread on the Anastasia barrel, and has exactly the same two-flats-separated-by-a-hollow metal section ring).

It's really odd these lovely pens have sunk without trace. But I prefer it that way. Don't want too many collectors pursuing them!
