Few Bismi Pens

"Bismi" was a famous brand of fountain pens made in Kerala. It was very much famous during the 90s.

I was in search of these in old stationery shops in Palakakd district of Kerala but I could not find any. At last when I was in a small stationery shop in Olavakode to buy few envelopes I saw these pens along with few other Camalin pens put in a dusty plastic pen holder.

The shopkeeper told me that it was old stock and that all may not write well. Few were damaged. I bought three non damaged ones.

Here are the pictures.

I do not know the model names. Would be great if someone could share details of these. Even the shopkeeper did not know the model names.

Indeed. A sky blue Bismi was my first FP. Though it used to leak at the threads and cover my notebook with comets (blobs which would be given a tail by yours truly) I was fascinated by FPs from then on. In the early 80s I used to love walking into Syed Agencies and see all those pens arranged there though a new pen was bought only every other year.

Bismi was our (as in Cochinites) own brand and we used to scorn people who used Jubilee pens, a brand that was made in Trichur (kunnankulam).

This love with bismi pens lasted till I was gifted a Hero and then a P45.

So many memories...

A lifelong FP user...

Exactly.

So you are also from Ernakulam / Cochin area!!

I too used to frequent Syed Agencies in that by-lane in Broadway. Pens used to be given only for important exams. Had we known the silicone grease most pens that we threw out due to the leaks would have lived to be photographed and put up on FPN.

Deepak if you happen to be in Ernakulam do go to Pen House. He has some new avatar of Bismi. He said they shifted to Mumbai now and started making pens again.
