I have 2 VP's and have no problems with the clip position. By the time you have uncapped your Pelikan I have already written down the note with my VP!

Seeing you're a teacher, I would recommend the VP. A teacher, as you said, doesn't write for long, lengthy sessions, but rather, writes, caps, writes, caps etc. I'm a student and I find my VP is much more useful than a Pelikan M800 or a Custom 823. VP has much more utility. I agree that the Pelikan may be a 'better' pen due to its elegance, design and durability, but if you want utility, I recommend the VP. I'm not a fan of the design and looks of the VP, especially the hooded nib, but it is a very practical pen and great for someone like you. Another suggestion is the Italix Profession pen, which has two nibs on either side so you can use black as well as red. Also, the VP is a gold nib, while the M205 has a steel nib. One thing I despise about the Pelikan Mxxx series is that unless you purchase one of their larger pens, you get a pen that is 'under-size' and gives you the feeling of inferiority. With a pen like a Lamy 2000 and a Custom 823, you are getting a full size pen that is not the cheapest in a series of pens. A Pelikan M200 is around the same price range as a VP, but a M200 is extremely small and is an under-sized pen, whereas the VP is a full size pen that is not in a series of pens.

Hello Yugirider2,

I agree that I want a bit of size in my pen, although many FPNers like smaller pens.

A way to get size for very little money is Chinese pens, such as the Jinhao 159 (mine cost $7 including postage). It writes very well.

Yet another large pen which is a very good writer is the Rosetta Coronado for about $80. Mine writes just about as well as any pen I own.

I like my two Pelikans but I don't think it's good value for the money, whereas every Pilot pen I've used I've been amazed by what I get for the dollar.

Congratulations on your purchase!

The clip position is my #1 concern for people who want a VP. My wife has two VPs and uses them as her EDCs as they are great pens. I have one and use it for quick notes and jotting, but I find that the pen is too thick, too heavy, and encumbered by the clip location to make it onto my favorites list for long writing.

Good luck with the Pelikan.

I am happy to hear you are loving your Pelikan M205. I have 4 of those and they are elegant reliable EDC workhorses.
