Pilot Prera

Got a Royal Blue with fine nib from engeika. Arrived in less than a week.

It's really good; a great colour! Just trying to find a nice BRIGHT royal blue ink to put in it. Any suggestions?

Hello!

Try Diamine Royal Blue (in the new package design--may be a new formulation), Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue or Noodler's Navajo Turquoise. All three are snappy!

hi does anyone with one of the older preras and a new one see any difference in them? On engeikas prera pages it says that the new ones are supposed to have better flow and generally newly designed or something like that. So is there a difference in writing?

Hello!

I have an early, gray Prera with medium nib and it writes very well. I also have a newer ivory one and, although it has a fine nib, it writes beautifully. My brother just ourchased a snappy, yellow Prera with fine nib and he says it's very smooth and impressive for such an inexpensive fp.

I was a little freaked that the present price at Ujuku is USD36.60 plus shipping! It's less at Engeika, USD28 plus shipping.

I bought an early Prera from Ujuku for a little less and it came boxed with a CON-20. Does Engeika ship the pen boxed? I bought another Prera for around $30 & cheap shipping from jstationery in the U.S.: https://www.jstationery.com/index.php , but the pen wasn't boxed and it only came with one cartridge.

What is Engeika's Web address? Thanks for any info! (if you can PM with the website, that would be great since I can't always find where I've been.)

Guh I want the white one so badly! I told myself I wasn't allowed to get another white pen (my Decimo is white, and while I love it, I wanted to branch out and get more pens in different colors). Anyway, the white is out of stock at jetpens, and that's where my friend is ordering it for me. It's mah birthday this weekend, and I asked her to get the pen for me.

I got the pink instead (why not? My other pens are blue, black, white, and purple. This'll make for a nice change), and hope I'll like it... I don't generally like pink, but this is just so explosively pink that I'm attracted to it.

It's supposed to be my new school pen. My trusty Cavalier broke, and though I've repaired it, I no longer trust it for travel. Poor baby... It has to stay at home now :(

Thanks to KCat and evryone else who has posted about this pen.

I ordered my ivory Prera M nib from Ujuku-san and he delivered very quickly with a cartridge and converter included.

I was surprised (but shouldn't have been when I looked back to the original post) about how small this pen is.

The steel nib is pretty smooth, but it is steel and is not as smooth as other pens- my faber -castell pen with steel nib is far smoother. Maybe just need a bit of fiddling maybe to get it smoother.

Anyway a pen that will definitely be sitting on my work desk for constant use, but also gazing at its lovely colour.

Thanks again

Jeremy

Engeika is a seller on eBay. Very secure packaging, box complete with cartridge plus con-20 and papers.

When I got my Brown one and the Blue with white cap from him I let him know that I wanted the con-50 instead of the con-20. He was able to do it for me.

(S)he will also swap the nib for you, if you ask him/her! I won one marked as a medium nib and asked if I could have a fine instead and there was no problem.

Finally got my own royal blue one, with both fine and italic nibs. Really like this pen, especially with the fine nib. It came from Cyberpens in a quick and easy transaction. :)

It writes well, and feels great. Its sturdy enough and reliable enough to be my "loaner" FP for friends who want to borrow an FP rather than a BP. A duty it shares with my Lamy Vista.

I was very unhappy with my pen for about a month. It kept catching on the upstrokes, and it wasn't very inky. Today, I was bored and I had time to kill, so I removed the nib and feed, fiddled around with them a bit, and now it works quite well. It's inky and quite smooth.

I have to learn how to do that.

Would make me less scared of these mysterious devices.

For us less experienced readers, what form did this "fiddling" take? I have some less than perfect nibs that could do with being fiddled!

I'd like to know, too. My Prera worked great out of the box, then I'm not quite sure what happened. Now it sort of writes as though it's got some (unwanted) flex to it, with more of a medium line. I think it could be because of how the nib is seated on the feed (too close? not close enough?) but I'm at a loss for regaining the wonderful fine line it had originally.

Have you previously removed the nib and feed? It could be that the nib is seated too far out, so the tines are now extended further beyond the feed. I'll try to gently work the nib and feed out (pull and rock them gently from side to side), position the nib properly on the feed, and push the pair in again.

I just got one of these for editing. It is really quite an impressive pen. If Pilot would make it available in the US and the EU and also have a broad nib option, I think they could really challenge the Safari for the intro market. I like my Safari. It's tough, writes well and looks like a writing tool. The Prera is also tough, writes well and has more of a classic pen-like design with a refined fit and finish. Although editing is always a chore, the Prera may make it a bit more tolerable.

Agreed. Pilot's business model & distribution criteria are utterly enigmatic. It's the same with their inks. I have some understanding of how Japanese companies might find it difficult to enter a market, but when you're already a household name, having just one point per continent where you might be able to buy stuff doesn't seem a lot to ask!

Sorry to suddenly revive the thread, guys! My parents are going to Osaka and I wanted to see if I could get them to buy me a cheap fountain pen. :)

So far, the Prera looks great! Will definitely ask for it in pink or ivory...

Hi - bought mine from winningpens on eBay and it came with a converter and a cartridge. It's a great little pen!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

I had to buy the converter separately for mine, but it was only $3. You can get both the Prera and the converter from JStationery or Jet Pens. The Con 20 is a sac converter and the Con 50 is a twist converter. I like the Con 20, which seems to have a little bit greater capacity than the Con 50. It is also slightly cheaper. The same 2 converters work in most Pilot pens, including the Vanishing Point.
