Recommended Posts

My first attempt To make a fountain pen body, a Susutake, made from old bamboo. Section and nib are taken from Caran D'ache.

Length with cap on 15.5 cm

With out cap off 14.5 cm

Width 1.2 cm

Happy to get advice for the making of the next one from this batch, plan to produce 10 and looking for reccomendations for good nib-section combo that are slim, could fit and write magnificently.

Wow it is a very nice pen indeed! However, the transition region between the nib section and the pen body seems a little bit abrupt, not sure if it is comfort to hold with.

If you would like to keep the consistency between cap and body, I would like to suggest the strategy adopted by GvFC Intuition Platino Wood...(:

Thank you Azura, I Was worried about this gap but when writing - is sits ok in the hand.

Sailor Susutake has the same reality and they also added a turn tread for the cap, I managed to avoid it buy using an inner tube in the cap to click on the section.

It is challenging to keep body and cap at same level with minimum step creation between body and section.

Could you pleas provide me with a link to GvFC suggested strategy?

The pen looks lovely! I'd buy this from you but for the metallic section.

I think the metal section looks odd. May I suggest an ebonite section as an alternative?

Given that the pen is not really designed to be posted, maybe have the threads at the end-near the nib (there seems to be mixed opinion about it)?

Dear flummoxed

I agree regarding metallic section and plan to produce the next pen with a Sailor 1911 standard nib and section, waiting for the parts to arrive from Japan.

Ken

What is this in your photo? Did you make it? How can I get my hands on the section and nib and does it have a coupling for the cap? What nib is it?

Very nice indeed and natural looking fountain pen ;)

I would also suggest a bit larger section for next versions, there's a big gap between the bamboo body and the section, for some people it could be unconfortable to hold.

Good choice for the sailor nibs, but I didn't know that Sailor sells spare parts & nibs.

Thank you L.Velvet

I totally agree that section needs to be bigger. Nibs.com sell sections and nibs os sailor. I am going to use a Sailor "downer" because I also need the couplings
