Worn Threads On A Conklin Crescent (2004)

Hi, I was wondering if someon here could help. I have a Conklin Crescent I purchased in 2004. Well recently the threads between the body and head seem to have unexplicably shrunk and will not hold itself together.

 

I thought I had a lifetime warranty, but apparently the company was bought out in 2007 and they don't honor previous warraties. I tried to just buy a new pen but it seems the new one has the body glued to the head at this joint. Which I found really odd because I have had to change the bladder in the one I have a couple times. It seems like the new ones would be hard to maintain.. so I returned it.

 

So I am hoping someone can give me a lead on a replacement part. The rest of my pen, including the nib and body and cap are all in good shape. I would just need a new head.

The threads on the gripping section look as though there is/was some sort of substance on them. Do you know what that might be?

 

The part that's poking out the rear of the gripping section seems oddly small in diameter; is that normal?

i was told that threads that are slightly worn can get a little more grip with some clear nail polish. I tried it. It was not enough.. Maybe a bad idea generally, but it has shrink so much that no buildup will really help the threads grip.

The shrinkage is strange. I have had the pen for about 10 years and it never was a problem before.. Maybe I left it in the sun at some point? I really dont know.. That's the only thing I can guess.

 

But yes the wholle part with the threads and where the bladder attaches has shrunk. In fact the bladder which is normally held on with a little ring wont stay on either.

What kind of ink were you using?

Noodler's "Old Manhattan" extra black. Same thing I've been using almost since I bought it..

There are widespread reports of Noodler's Bulletproof inks damaging or destroying pen parts.

Maybe that's true. I don't know.. Like I said, I've been using it for about 10 years.. maybe it took that long.. still the part that shrank is not a part that is normally in contact with the ink.. so maybe that isn't the problem. But maybe I should be using another brand..

 

Well, in any case, I know my pen is not repairable without a replacement part.. so if anyone can help tracking down a part I'd be thrilled.

 

Or.. worse case scenerio I may end up selling this one for "parts"... As I mentioned the rest of the pen is in decent shape.
