Magnetic Blue - Caran D'ache

When I got sick few years ago (virus called pens and inks), I started picking different inks. I was amazed by Caran d'Ache Color of the Earth inks.

The thing is the inks were discontinued before I had a chance to try all of them. I was disappointed to hear Colors of the earth were replaced by Chromatics.

OK, the bottle is cool, colors seem nice, so what's the problem?

One - no more Amazon and Grand Canyon! I can get over Amazon, with time I started to prefer murkier greens, but Grand Canyon was in my top 5 of browns.

Two - the price. OK, Chromatics bottles are 50 ml compared to Colors of the Earth 30 ml bottles yet the price per ml increased by 25,7 % (I compare prices in Poland : 55 PLN / 30 ml vs 115 PLN / 50 ml).

Are they really worth it? Well, I like the way Caran d'Ache market their products, I like the bottle and the brand. If I'll be able to try all of these inks, I'll review them here. It will take time though. At the moment I have only sample of Organic Brown and Ultraviolet bottle. Some time ago I've reviewed Infinite grey which was cool.

  1. Cosmic Black
  2. Delicate Green
  3. Divine Pink
  4. Electric Orange
  5. Hypnotic Turquoise
  6. Idyllic Blue
  7. Infinite - Grey
  8. Infra Red
  9. Magnetic Blue
  10. Organic Brown
  11. Ultra Violet
  12. Vibrant Green

Magnetic Blue is decent blue black with gint of purple. It's nice color but it's not really special. I know more complex blue - blacks.

Looks like a very ordinary blue black.

I thought so too until I started using it. Really, subtle but gorgeous shading and a total joy to use and write with.

(I don't sketch with it as it has a pink element to it when washed away)

I was all grumpy when I first bought it but love using it. My Pilot Custom 91 F nib has known no other ink

Hello,

I really like this color - a subtle blue/grey. How does it compare to R+K Salix or any of the KWZ IG blues?

And like always, I love your reviews

I like it. There's no teal in it. If I ever get some, it would be very interesting, as 'squid suggested, to compare it to Salix and the KWZI IG blues & B/B, all of which I have. Unfortunately, I just came home from the Dallas show with 16 new bottles of ink, which means I now have a 600-year supply of ink instead of just a 500-year supply. I had my hand on a bottle of Magnetic at the Vanness table, but decided to get a second bottle of BungBox 4B instead, because you never know.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I need a little push! I am thinking about buying a bottle of C. d' Ache Magnetic Blue ink. I have a sample and it "talks to me," if you know what I mean. It is not flashy, and it does not jump off of the page at you, and it does not scream, --- "Look at me!" It is just a calming ink ---- for want of a better expression ---- that I believe will become a favorite of this poor earthen vessel! So, why do I need a little push? I guess I want to know if any other ink has ever had this effect on you, or is this just some sort of "sickness" that I have.

Do it.

The cost will soon become a thing of the past and you'll have a really classy, understated but well behaved bottle to hand.

Well, I did buy a bottle, and it is NO LONGER "talking to me." Washed out "blue-grey." Sorry I spent the money. C. S.

Oh the guilt.

I filled my Pilot Vp with some a couple of days ago and fell in love with it all over again.
