I spent some time tonight working on nib tuning with my Chinese pens. My backlog has gotten pretty deep but I'm catching up. The 99 cent X450 is now one of my favorites to write with, only because I've got it dialed in so well now.

 

Lessons learned:

 

• The standard issue Jinhao #6 really is a Medium when it's not constipated.
• The standard issue Jinhao #6 is pretty smooth after it gets a good micromesh treatment and is made requisitely wetter.
• I really like Hero carbon black ink #234 when run through a tuned Jinhao #6 Medium nib.

I'll take some time tonight on a Rhodia webbie for a demo.

If you just log into ebay china it comes up as $0.99.

Once you pay with paypal it then converts to £s at the current rate.

Its even cheaper in $Can. The last time I checked it worked out at 2 for a £1.

You can get an x450 for less than $0.99 shipped if you buy more than one. Both of the eBay retailers selling Jinhao x450 for $0.99 shipped (insteaddo and hotwholesalefree) are willing to sell 2 for $0.95 per item.

 

I'm convinced that "insteaddo" and "hotwholesalefree" are one in the same person/party. They interact with their accounts at nearly the same time, make identical counteroffers, and send IDENTICALLY worded messages.

Well I'm pleasantly surprised. Not only did it arrive in South Africa, it made it in less than a month. It arrived in a plain bubble wrap envelope with no extra protection. But it was still perfect condition. I inserted a Diamine Prussian blue cartridge and it writes flawless.
