These pens are a must at this price.

A "fancy" fountain pen that looks great, and writes well, for less than the price of a packet of gum.

These are a "no brainer"

Buy three, and if 2 don't work (highly unlikely) you still have a great pen for ≤$3.

Get in.

I got two, but have only inked one. It's been solid and I love that it's so cheap I've put it in my box I've set up for pens for the kids to play with too. The second one actually came with a scratched cap from a postal issue that also damaged the envelope. They don't wrap the pen in anything protective so probably a common issue. Told the seller and they refunded .50. Started to think about haggling for full refund, but then remembered we're talking $.49 so who cares. Now I have spare parts and the kids can just scuff it up more. Can't decide if I'll try for a third, but it is actually a pretty boring color, so one may be enough even at this price.

Thought about getting another to gift, but it looks like the seller has sold well over 1500 and is now out of stock.

That page says, "More than 10 available," now. Very tempting. Do I need this pen? No. But maybe I'll spring for two anyway. Would this really be "falling off the wagon" I wonder?

Edited to add:

Whoa! I tried to order but I got that "The seller only allows buyers to purchase 1 item every 10 days," limit too  . This must be the same guy from whom I just ordered some nibs the other day. Well, I went to another vendor, maybe even the same guy using another identity on Flea-Bay, and bought two for the same price and free shipping.

Here's the guy from whom I ended up buying two of these Jinhao 450s.

Flea-Bay is sort of strange these days, eh? Maybe the seller doesn't want to get overwhelmed with orders and so limits folks. I had seen his plea to not give him negative feedback when I was looking at the nibs the other day.

Holy moly. And it's even less expensive given the currency conversion.

Hahaha I was going to say that.

If I buy through ebay in USD it costs 65p, and if I buy in CA$ it costs 49p, so, 2 for £1 it is then.

I just "stubbed" a red one I got last year and it is brilliant.

If you're looking for a bit of grinding practice, then you can't go wrong with these fellas at 10 pens for a fiver.

Honestly, 10 for £5.

It's a grand madness. :-D

My thought is that they're basically buying a distribution list of eBay buyers. It seems like a cheap way to acquire email addresses of people interested in Chinese fountain pens.

Or maybe they are trying to build their eBay reputation by dumping some items at cost. Or both!

I got on this, too. I didn't see any caveats about ordering only 1 in 10 days, but perhaps that only comes up if you try to order more than that. When mine comes in, if it's as decent as everyone (save for one) says it is, I'll definitely see if I can get the "no pen for you" warning by ordering a few more at once.

I received my third X450 (bought from different sellers) and it finally came "perfect". The others worked fine, but one had a plain looking cap band without the Jinhao X450 logo, the other had unperfect lacquer job. This one has no issues of these. What I liked about these pens is the fact that they have airtight caps, resin section without any paint/lacqueur and they fit well the included converter and some cartridges I tried. But it is very heavy for me. These pen are good gifts for the curious.

Which seller had the "perfect" one?

EDIT: I'm having so much fun with these cheap pens that I'm spinning up a Wordpress site for reviewing sub-$25 fountain pens and other bargains of the modern web. I'm drafting an article now about the Jinhao X450 which I aim to promote as the ultimate 99 cent fountain pen.

I make no $$$ from blogging. I just enjoy writing on the side. My day job takes care of all of my financial needs so this is just for fun.

Yeah, I just ordered up some Hero inks (three different colors), have some more pens on the way... this should be fun. Another X450 came in today (which I paid almost THREE WHOLE DOLLARS for). But it's amazing. It works great. So I'm happy.

11 days after ordering my 99 cent Jinhao X450, it arrived. I inked it up and wrote with it, no problems. It's indistinguishable from my other X450's so it does not appear to be a knock off.

These make outstanding gifts to the new initiates to our hobby, those that want to move up from a Varsity or Preppy, but don't know what to buy...I give them one of these, and they can relax and enjoy this pen while developing preferences for their next one...and the next one...and the next one...

Funny, I just tried ordering two, but it appears to be one per customer now.

I guess they are selling at or near cost in order to bump up their feedback.

Either that, or the eBay app is messing up for a change.

Oh well, at least I got one more cheapo Chinese pen for the collection :)
