Not today, but over the past two weeks I have received several pens as Christmas gifts...

From a great friend, a Hero "51" wannabe (with a smooth writing fine nib), and a RHR Duofold Jr. Two very wonderful pens that will be at the center of my collection and in constant use through the years to come!

From my wife a gray VP with a fine nib that is a joy to write with. It's my first VP and the practicality of it has me hooked. I had stayed away because of worries over the clip, but after using this one for the past several days (we exchanged our gifts early because of traveling) I have barely noticed it.

And from my wife's grandmother, some very special pens. My wife's grandfather passed away nearly 30 years ago - several years before my wife was born, so she never knew him. He had an appreciation for pens and always kept a few of them around. I've seen several of them - my in-laws have a couple Sheaffers (one a rather old BCHR) in a shadow box, and my father-in-law has some Cross pens his father used. Back to pens at hand... My gift from her was one of my wife's grandfather's old cigar boxes full of plastic bags (each one containing a pen) and a Parker box. The Parker box contains an unused 45 set (with a business card that has a note about the pens on it - they were a gift from a salesman for purchases made by my grandfather-in-law). In the bags were a Sheaffer Snorkel desk set with a nearly perfect black base with the price sticker still on the bottom, a gray Sheaffer Touchdown (I think a TIPDip), a red-brown Parker VS, a Sheaffer Compact II (with the 9-windowed section & 14k nib), and two Sheaffer transparent school type looking pens (one clear, one blue hued). The Compact II is especially outstanding for us because, as he did with almost anything that someone else could walk off with, my wife's grandfather engraved his name on it himself. The Snorkel is already dropped off to be fixed up, and the Touchdown is in pieces ready for a new sac to be ordered, and the VS will be off to visit someone before too long as I'm not comfortable working on heirlooms myself. The Compact II will be cleaned up and set aside because the engraving is already nearly gone and I don't want to risk anything happening to it. For the most part these pens will be on display or stashed away with an occasional use (except the desk set, it is begging to be used so it will live on my desk as it lived on his).

Okay, it's late and I've been on the road or getting ready to be on the road for much of the past two weeks, so before I ramble anymore and submit posts with sentences that will make me cringe tomorrow, I'm going to call it a night!

Visited PenGallery's store today to send my Marlen E-Com back to Italy (again!! ) for the same leaking problem, but ended up buying 2 other pens instead:

1. Laban Abalone

2. Stipula Vedo Turquoise

Got them at great prices

Also saw that Lai and the girls were very busy taking phone and online orders, mostly from overseas, and when the FedEx guy came over he had to carry a large sack of packages to be sent out :roflmho:

On Christmas I got a Danitrio Mikado (raw ebonite, clipless, medium nib) :clap1:

I love this thing. I've been lusting after one of these for two years now!

Shahrin, I envy you your easy access to Pengallery! Did you know Lai even called me on a Friday late afternoon to make sure the black and not the brown pen case was okay because the Fedex guy was already there and I made him promise to get my order to me by Monday? That's efficiency for you. :) Do post a review of the Vedo when you have the time, I am quite curious about it!

Don't know about today, as I am at work, and any pen (I am expecting an Angel Fish Maki E) will be delivered at work. Yesterday, however, I received a Red Phoenix and Paulowina Maki E pen. Second Maki E I purchased from the same seller on eBay. The first one is a wet M, writes smoothly, has a little spring/flex to the nib, and looks beautiful. I got the Phoenix to resell, and the angel fish also (unless I can talk SWMBO into allowing me to keep it, since we have a 76 gal aquaium with 5 actual angel fish in it, by our front entry door). I probably should do a photo review of the original flower Maki E which I am definitely keeping.

Received a call from my son while at work today - a HUGE package labeled as containing a fountain pen just came over from the USA, sent by Rob Morrison :clap1:

When I arrived home, I saw the package in my study - IT IS HUGE measuring at 20" X 20" :yikes: . My son thought an entire pen collection was in the package :ltcapd:

Opened it up, and here's what's in it :

My Pelikan M400 from Tay in Pensinasia came today! Hooray! It's my Christmas present, albeit a little late due to my own poor planning, but it was very exciting to be sitting at coffee on a winter morning and have the doorbell ring.

It's the red striated barrel with a fine nib and writes absolutely perfectly. I inked it immediately and it started up smoothly and perfectly right away. I have gotten nervous lately reading posts about scratchy Pelikan nibs but so far I am 6 for 7 on Pelikans writing perfectly out of the box, and the odd one (M150) only needed a month or so of breaking in to my hand.

It's a beautiful pen and service from Tay was excellent. What a great start to a winter morning :cloud9:

Not exactly an earth-shaking arrival, but my first purchased fountain pen arrived today, a Cross ATX in basalt black. The nib writes smoothly but I can feel a hint of tactile feedback from the paper transmitted through the nib. The pen feels well balanced unposted, and it looks great! I have some, uh, hastily taken pictures below. Excuse the condition of the desk, eh.

Not a pen and not today!

What did turn up yesterday from www.thewritingdesk.co.uk - aka TWDPens on here - was a grip section for a Lamy Accent.

I had hardly got the pen back from Lamy after I butchered the feed unit when my other half whipped it off me as she liked it. I hated it as the grip was too slippery. What Martin has sent me is the India Rubber grip and it as totally changed the pen. Even the better half was impressed by the change, which rather suggests that I wont be getting it back any time soon. Its the 1.1 stub nib that has impressed her. Another convert from fine nibs. Soon all of those fine nibbed pens will be worth nothing !!

I broke down and ordered another Lamy 2000 EF hoping I have better luck the second time around.

My All-Star turned out to be great so I'll take a second chance. If not it's up for sale !

They arrived yesterday, but I was on the way out the door at the time.

Aurora Ipsilon in teal from eBay -- great find for me, since teal's my favorite color. Since I have no other pens inked in black, I'll probably use Aurora black with it. (Pic modified from eBay pic to better show color)

Went over to Joon's and got the Talentum Finesse (black rollerball version). I must agree that the wet lacquer looks gorgeous. Because I wanted to see the pen myself and hold it, I paid a higher price in store (swisherpens was cheaper but I was being too lazy to order online I suppose). The regular Talentum was just way too big!

By the way, this was my first purchase at Joons. The service was OK. My only concern was that the Aurora box was a little bit worn and they forgot to stamp the date on the warranty book. In addition, I saw a slight little scratch near the top of the pen's body (only if you look very closely). Maybe I am being too anal here. Anyway, overall I am happy with their service.

Courtesy of Pam Braun, I received my Black Carbonesque Pilot Vanishing Point with a medium nib today (and it's my birthday no less).

It is my favorite pen to date. (I'm still having trouble with my Pelikan M605, or that one might be in the running.)

First thing I noticed: the clip placement is not a problem for me.

Second thing I noticed: the pen feels good: firm, solid construction with a nice heft, but not too hefty.

It started right up, and I got a taste of what you guys have been calling the "patented vanishing point squeak." It's pretty slight, and doesn't bother me.

I'm totally in love with this pen, and I can finally stop buying fountain pens now. Right?

I am currently in posession of some cartridge refilling kits (aka syringes). Why refill cartridges?

1) save money by not buying more cartridges

2) save money by not buying converters

3) cartridges hold more ink! (than converters)

4) use whichever inks you like

If any of you are interested in the wonderful world of refilling your own cartridges (and mixing inks the easy way), check out my post in the marketplace (search for cmaxx).
