Two pens today.

First a vintage Mentmore Autoflow button filler bought cheaply on ebay, slightly mismatched (discoloured barrel/cap, but looks nice and and when dipped writes smoothl. As suspected it will needa new inc sac and service, so will be going off to Penpractice in the New Year.

Second a Tortoise Retro 51 Scriptmaster II courtesy of fellow FPNer futhark. A great looking pen at a great price and was very surprised how quickly it got here from the USA (very well packed as well, no danger of any damage).

Filled it with Diamine Imperial Blue and writes brilliantly, as if often the case goes to show you don't have to spend a fortune to get a striking looking pen that writes well, a nice weight and size, just right fro me.

Thanks futhark.

Black Sailor 1911 with Naginata Togi MF nib came yesterday. It's a very nice wet writer. I'm

trying it out with Diamine Indigo.

Stopped at an antique shop I had never seen before, found two pens I just had to buy, one for me and one for Diane. She gets the super-fine pointed Parker 51 demi (possibly Special, though it does not say this on the aero filler, but it is the loop-type instead of the usual presser bar filler, maroon. The nib is not as smooth as I might want, but it is super fine, and it seems to be semi-flex amazingly enough.

I got the open-nibbed Sheaffer snorkel, also maroon, no White Dot, but a very pretty pen with a very smooth, fine point nib. Nib is the two color masked type.

Cleaned up both pens, just water with a touch of soap, got lots of dried ink out of the 51, hardly anything out of the snorkel, both work quite well, the only real problem is the clip on the 51 sets cocked, I will probably have to locate a replacement as one edge of the clip washer is shorter than the rest, no clue as to what happened to it, but with the edge like it is it can’t possibly set straight, but other than this the pen is great.

I got both for a total of $20 plus tax. Santa was nice to me this year.

(And I should have a PFM III coming in just before Christmas, or right after, but that is fine, it is a birthday present for myself.)

Sorry about the so-so picture, but I had to hurry, the camera was quickly running out of power.

Nakaya Cigar long kuro-tamenuri - in the middle with Pelikan M1000 above and Parker 51 below. Just arrived after customs man added $130 to the cost! Must do a review or two sometime soon - maybe with time over Christmas.

£65 - Ooh that hurts!! Was that new from Nakaya?

There's not many pens that make an M1000 look small!!

Yes - new straight from Nakaya. It did hurt - but a lovely pen. I did the sums before I bought and realised what the deal was going to be. I've only just opened it up and tried it - very nice. Almost identical nib to one I have on a maki-e Platinum from the 80's. Very smooth writer. You can see the red shining through the black and this will become more pronounced over the next wee while. The length is fine unposted of course and grip section similar to a M800 Pelikan. Must try and do a review of this one and others soon - need to sort out a 'set' to photograph shiny little things.

Waterman Gentleman Silver Body - medium nib. Off the 'bay. I've filled er up with Mont Blanc black. Will do a review perhaps in a few days. I did not see any reviews of the Gentleman in the review index--surprising!

(3) Hero "336"'s and a Parker 45. The Parker is fairly nice. The Hero's, while I know they aren't a high-quality pen, were even less impressive than I envisioned. Thankfully, I didn't pay much for the lot of them.

Traded a pen for a Lamy 2000 EF and some cash. It arrived today and, after a quick flush with water to make sure it was clean (and it was, thank you very much - you know who you are), I inked it up with Lamy Turquoise. Only one word to say: S M O O T H ! ! ! ! !

The last empty slot in my cigar box case of 13 was filled to day....guess that makes me DONE collecting!? I have long admired DJ "51"s and in the mail today this arrived from Ernesto at parker51.com (no affiliation):

I am so stoked! After simply staring at it in the pen box since it arrived I just stopped this note to dip and test the fine nib. This pen is going to be really great to write with. Second most expensive pen in the box....but it will work just as hard as the rest.

Happy Holidays to all

I taught a friend how to load film in her "new" Hasselblad 500CM, and in return she gave/lent me a Rotring Art Pen with 1.1mm italic nib. It works so pretty! Makes me feel like an Italigrapher...
